hey guys,

just got the rejection from dmu after my interview. ouch that one hurts. anyone else hear any unfortunate news from them? i have an interview this thursday at kcumb, this rejection has my morale pretty low. is this normal to get an outright rejection after the interview? what should i do to improve for my next one?

doc, I got waitlisted at dmu. Must admit, I wasn't particularly hurt after the interview about the waitlist. While the school itself was pretty great, the interview (and the interviewers) was (were? I think was is correct here) just so weird that I felt like I had just met Dr Jekyl/Mr Hyde in med school form. Definitely not the place for me.

Forget about it. Go to kcumb, be yourself and nail the interview. Read up on kcumb to get a feeling for the school and what questions may be asked. Have a few questions of your own to ask at the end of the interview. Good luck - you'll find a school that fits you.

It is a good sign that you have an interview at KCUMB. I think the acceptance rate is like 85% once you get an interview. I really liked the school! For your interview, just have a good answer to why you want to be a DO, tell the truth about what you would do in an ethical situation, and be able to state what you think are one of the biggest problems in healthcare. That question will be followed by "Now, what could you do to help resolve the issue?" I dreaded having questions like that and my interviewer asked them but it was such a laid back interview, I wasn't nervous at all. You will also get fitted for your white coat while waiting to be called for your interview. Just pm me if you have any questions! 😀

Shy,

As a current student at DMU I can say that I have heard from classmates that some of the interviewers are a little weird. When I interviewed, I had a great experience as I got a great anatomy faculty member that was very friendly. However, I have heard people say that certain faculty members can be slightly tough on applicants. Let me reassure you that should you get in to DMU from the waitlist, those problems really don't exist. The faculty (99% of them) are great and all of them very approachable.

I also got waitlisted at DMU although I wasn't upset either. I had a really bad interview and DMU just wasn't the place for me. I didn't feel like I fit in there. I turned down my spot and am planning on going to KCUMB right now. I really felt like I could see myself there. The interview was okay. It was a little stressful but of course I think they all are. Just don't stress out about getting rejected someplace. You might not be a fit for them and they might not be a fit for you. After visiting different places you'll know where you fit in. Good luck in Kansas City!

I was waitlisted at DMU. My interview was very weird and uncomfortable as well. They made the school seem kind of cultish. I knew I didnt want to go there after I had my interview. The next interview I had went very well though and I got in! The point is, it veries from school to school. Dont let DMU ruin your interview at KCUMB

hey guys, thanks for the responses...is it uncommon to get rejected right after the interview, meaning no waitlist?

I dont know, but I do know that a waitlist is basically a rejection (I dont think they take many off the waitlist), so I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Hey, I got rejected post interview from VCOM, ironically, two days after I interviewed there 😱 . It was my first rejection and it made me realize that I wasn't selling myself the correct way. The rejection did a lot more good then harm for me. After a week of preparing my answers, looking at what I answered wrong, I was ready for all my next interviews and, I am glad to say, I have been accepted to all of the schools I applied to after that rejection! I am sorry you had a bad match at DMU but, this just means it wasn't the school for you. You will know the school for you as soon as you walk in the doors, I knew that at DMU. Good luck, just remember, sell yourself and don't dwell on a rejection.

I turned down my waitlist seat at dmu as well. Just absolutely NOT the place for me. I've heard other students say how approachable the instructors were, but after my interview experience I don't think I could possibly believe them. That would have tainted any 'approachability' had I been accepted.

I look at it as just not the place for me. Just not. Probably not the right place for you, either doc. Don't sweat it.

Try not to let it bother you.
