anyone ever get < 30% on an exam?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, I once got around 20% on every exam in a class. I never even got a single problem right. Still got an A though =)

how'd you rebound?

Curve. I have had tests where the average was around like a 30-40% (no joke), so when everything is adjusted ... it wasn't a big deal. Now, if everyone else is getting 80% and up, and you are getting a 30% ... you've got some thinking to do.

I would've gotten like 5% on my physics II midterm, had I not thrown my exam in the trash and withdrawn from the course.:hardy: Retook it later, and my lowest grade was a 71% on the final, which is a B- in Canada....I was 0.5% away from an A- at the end of the class!😡

I got a 30 on a chem lab exam once. Came back by making a 60 on the next one 🙄

Ended up with a C+ in the course.

the worst is when you get <30% and there is NO curve :scared:

erm, you're kidding right?

no kidding. it was a theoretical math course, and your grade was based on collect partial credit. nobody could solve a single problem 100%.

no, and i dont know how anyone would rebound @ my school, since i have never had ANYTHING curved in the sciences!

god i hope i dont...w/o a curve that is

Got a 32% on a Physics II exam. Aced the lab, got a 96% on the last test, but pulled a B on the final. The professor didn't believe in the +/- scale the college used, and I hadn't earned a solid B in the class. Landed me a C.

I got an 8% on my first Orgo 2 exam (long story). I withdrew.

I know a girl who got a 8% on her physics test and she did not even drop the class. No curve either.

Awesome, I get to post here, too! 🙂 Um, I got 25% on my first physics midterm. I jumped into the second term of the freshmen honour's sequence in physics without having taken physics even in high school. I just sort of talked my way into the class.

The second midterm I got 50% on, the third one 75% on (no, I did not get 100% on the final... we never got that back, but I reckon it was maybe something like 80%). Got a B- overall in the course. The median was A-!! Hahaha.

I sucked up my pride and met with a tutor once a week for a few weeks and mooched off of other people's problem sets. The next term was a lot better, I got a B+. After that I got three more A-s and one more B+ in physics classes. I don't know how to detail how, but if you stick with it and don't feel silly asking for help, that should help. I mean, I did feel really damn stupid, but if you stick with it and work at it rather than avoid it (it's so easy to avoid working on something you know you're bad in and just let the work pile up and then bomb the final) you can't help but improve.

OH -- and then there was one fabulous time the next year that I got a 99% on a physics midterm, the highest mark. That was one of my best moments. The previous exams had been made available to us for that class, and I went through every single old question AND every single question in the textbook, and it just so happened that all of the questions were similar to either the old exams or questions in the textbook. So I was pretty lucky on that one, but it was also due to a lot of preparation.

Unless you get to drop one test grade, you should withdraw from the class (if you can). Otherwise study next time and hopefully you can at least a C in the class.

I got a 2% on a test in 5th grade, idk if that counts though

I made a straight up 25 or so on a differential equations II exam.

I hadn't been to class in a while, and thought there was an exam later in the week. I figured I should go that day to find out what chapters were being covered so I could prepare. I walk in, sit down, and the old woman starts handing out the exams. Seems like my calendar was off just a bit.

I thought a 25 with no partial credit was pretty good for diff eq that I hadn't studied or even seen before. She didn't agree.

in high school, i made a 27% on a ap calc bc test...i cried to the teacher, so she gave me 3 extra points on it. haha, i then rebounded by making a %110 on the next test!

I was fortunate to finish undergrad without scoring less than 30% on an exam. However, I predict that if I were to, it would be either because 1) I completely did not study for the exam, or 2) The test is difficult and curved.

In the first situation, you rebound by making sure that you excel in the next exam. Talk to someone who is doing well in the class and see what tips they can give you. In the end though, no tips will help you avoid doing actual work. Buckle down and study.

In the second situation, well 30% is probably not good enough for an A. Learn to get more partial credits and don't freak out.

I once had a professor give up trying to grade my exam. He just said it was going to be my drop grade. I did well on everything else though, and got an A- in the course. Just wasn't ready for that one exam.

made a 33 on my physics 1 test 1. ended up making 100's on the next 4 to pull off an A-. anything less than a 100 on any of the following tests meant i would only be able to get a B+ or less.

yeah... pressure isnt fun.

That is very impressivve. Congrats

I got a 9% in a probablistic methods course (I was a EE). Luckily, the average was a 12%.

Yea... we clearly all knew what was going on.

cool, nice job.

I'm taking it right now. Any advice? I'm trying to do as many problems as I can, but I'm trying to nail all the concepts first, which is some what difficult...

i would honestly open up a princeton, kaplan, or examkrackers science review book and use that... they broke it down so easy for me. the professors at my university, sadly, couldn't even carry TPR/Kaplan/EK's jockstrap when it came to teaching physics. i wish i knew about these prep companies beforehand.... the way i made up for the 33 was doing all the HW problems in the back of each chapter... which was a lot.

although their science review books dont cover all the topics covered in physics1/2. i would at least supplement the text with it.

My lowest grade so far is a 71% in my first chem test. We get our second test back tomorrow but I think I did well on it. We don't get curves.

Ugh, 8th grade geometry....I know that was a very long time ago...but the school insisted on putting me in 'high math' and I swore I only knew 'low math'...I got a 20 percent on that first test, I will never forget the look my teacher gave me, just sheer dissapointment...I worked my butt off after that first test and pulled myself up to an A and the teacher pulled me aside at the end of the year and said she had never had a student who had improved so much and had so much potential...

The sad thing is, this wasn't a totally unheard of experience in College for me...maybe not 30 percent low, but plenty of I am way below the mean moments. And then something just clicked, I just realized that I HATED the feeling of taking a test and not knowing anything....it is just a MISERABLE exprience and I just decided I did not want to feel that miserable anymore....and I have never gotten below the mean since....

I just made a 23% on my first Organic II exam. The sad part is that it was still above average!

grr...😡

I got a 29% on my Physics I final. Thank god I had an A before and was on Pass/Fail. 🙄

personally the class with the lowest exam average score was organic chemistry for me. To get an A i needed 82ish. I had something like 76 average by the end and got an A-

i dont understand how classes with exam averages like 30%, or even lower as some people have indicated above, can teach anything. If i were the dean i would seriously talk with the professor who gives that kinda exams to students 🙄

In one particular physics class and more than a couple bioengineering classes, the class averages for exams would be around 20-30%.

Oh, the memories...

How does one get <30 exactly? You outta get at least a 25 just by guessing...

I wish. However, my 23% wasn't multiple choice. It was predicting the product...completely fill-in-the-blank...I hate organic. Funny part is that I've never studied more for a test in my entire life. Gahh...
