Got a letter from Midwestern-Chicago late last week for a "Mandatory Campus Visit". It's not an interview, but a required visit as part of the application process. I want to attend, but it's scheduled for Monday, October 17 -- the same day I'm the best man at a wedding. I called and they said they'll be having other sessions, but it's unfortunate that I'll miss this one. Anyone want to pretend to be me? I'll give you $1000. E-mail me at... 😉

All joking aside, anyone ever have similar scheduling conflicts like this?

Seeing as how it's a visit and not an interview, and there are other sessions available, I don't see how it can really hurt you to attend on a different date. It's pretty short notice and it's not like you will be scored in some way on this. If it were an interview for a rolling admissions school it would be a tougher call because the earlier you interview the better. But in this case, I would reschedule and give your sincere regrets that you cannot attend the orginally scheduled visit. 🙂
When I was invited for my Shenandoah interview, they emailed me and asked if October 21st was okay. I quickly called Harcourt and changed my October 22nd PCAT from Florida to Richmond, VA. In this case, SU being rolling admissions, I DID NOT want to miss an opportunity to interview as early as possible.
Does Midwestern require a visit from every single applicant? That's sort of a tough request for out of state students!

I called their admissions office yesterday afternoon and they said it's a mandatory visit and due to applicant increases, the earlier it's done the better. So, I'll probably be placed in a disadvantage by not being able to go on Monday. The administrator I talked to was really friendly though and told to call back the last week of October to find out when the next session is. If it were an in state campus visit, I'd be able to make it no problem.

Out of state is tougher!

Yeah, their visit is mandatory. I went last year, and it isn't an interview per se, but there is an essay that you write on-site that is considered in your admission. If you can get the date changed to the next visit, do that. But, if you cannot change it and you are serious about attending there, you may have to reprioritize things.

True, FutureRxGal. I've had to think this through carefully. One of the worst parts of these interviews/visits is the short notice applicants are given. I received this one late last week -- not even two weeks notice. Ugh... 😛

Yeah, but unfortunately that's the price we all pay when seriously applying to schools, especially out of state. I remember last year I received my Mercer invitation exactly one week prior to the interview. You just have to do what's best for you. Things have a way of working out the way they should in the end. 🙂

I found out about my Mercer interview on a Monday and the interview was that Friday. Needless to say I had to rearrange my schedule a little to make it work. Good luck crossjb! I know it's stressful but it all pays off 🙂 We hope!
BTW, when are you supposed to hear back from the school where you interviewed? (I'm sorry I forgot which one it was.... Mercer's adcom is supposed to make some decisions today!)

ndearwater, I'm rooting for you -- good luck w/Mercer! 👍

Waiting anxiously on UMN's decision. Nothing as of yet, but here's hoping... 🙂

Hey, I'm interviewing at Mercer on the 14th! I was out of town when they called... I got the message two days ago, and I have to be there Friday... I had to tell my boss at work that I couldn't come in that day... Kind of sucked, but you do what you gotta do. 👍

Did you already have an interview with Mercer?

Hey,
Yeah I got a letter on a Monday about an interview on that Friday! I had to do the same thing with work. Luckily they know I'm applying to pharmacy school and understood... but still! Of course I was too excited to care about work! haha🙂 Congrats on the interview! Mine was Sept. 30th and it was a great experience, very relaxed and not nearly as stressful as I thought it would be. The adcom was suppossed to make decisions yesterday based on my session and the one before it and after it and then let us know. So I'll be checking the mail obsessively this week! Good luck on your interview! :luck: 😛

that's so weird

back a couple of years ago when i interviewed... i had a ton of time to prepare...

Cool. I'm as excited as you are! Good luck. I'm looking forward to seeing the school and asking lots of questions... I bought two suits yesterday... never wor a suit in my life... It feels a little wierd. Were most of the girls wearing suits? Or were they wearing just like slacks and sweater sets, or what? Just curious... seems like the consensus from what I've seen here is that you should wear a suit, but I wondered how many actually did... My mom was trying to convince me that I didn't need to worry too much, and that 'prfessional business attire' would be fine, suit or no suit... but I went ahead and got them anyhow. I'm probably more nervous about dressing that way than about the interview itself... Dumb, huh?

Hey 🙂
Most girls wore suits but not all. I wore a pants suit. Wear your suit for sure! 🙂 Someone was also making a joke about, Hey you're not supposed to wear a watch to an interview which I didn't know. Luckily I didn't wear one anyway. I don't know if that is true....
