...find themselves in a situation where they had to perform a labor epidural on the wife or a general anesthetic on a family member? Just thought it’d fun to hear some stories

I have never performed an anesthetic on my wife, too many good options in my group.
The closest I have come to this was the time I did the anesthesia for my sister-in-law.
In hindsight, I would have passed that off to a partner as well. Everything went well but it’s just not worth it. It was a long time ago and I was naive.
My wife has had two anesthetics and I have removed myself from any participation. I did pick the anesthesiologist of course.

So, what I’m saying is that it is stupid to do.

Pro Tip:

As you’re getting in bed, reach over and set a couple aspirin on her night stand.

Wife: “What are those for?”
You: “For your headache babe”
Wife: “I don’t have a headache”
You: (In your best Dave Chapelle voice) “Gotcha B*tch!”

But you said btch though

In case she does say that she has a headache, “Excellent. I have powdered my penis with aspirin. You can take it orally or as a suppository.”

I delivered my first born. I started out in family medicine, so did a fair bit of Ob. Had the FP attending in the room with me. One of the smoothest deliveries I ever did (n of 30-something).

My wife says I tried to start her IV when she was in labor for our first kid. I was a MS1 at the time. She says I blew two veins before someone else got an IV. I have no recollection of this event actually occurring, but it seems plausible, and she reminds me of it often. While she is the sort of person who'd spin such a falsehood just to mess with me, I think she's telling the truth. 70% sure.

That possible event notwithstanding, as a rule I limit my family medical practice to stuff on the level of a nurse advice line.

I did my wife’s last epidural. I damn near passed out during the procedure. Other than that, I’ve never passed out before or even gotten close.

Ive decided to let my partners deal with procedures on family members in the future.

The epidural worked great (thank God)

Agree!

It's always the husband

I got one for y'all - we had an OB patient show up a number of years ago with her epidural already in place! Seems her husband was an anesthesia resident and put it in AT HOME before she came to the hospital. We refused to use it.

Fascinating, what did they do to the resident?

We had a CRNA years ago who was taking epidural kits and steroids home to do ESIs on friends and family.

That's amazing. Preservative free I hope

That's called theft.
Among other things. She probably would've gotten away with it if she had simply stopped grabbing stuff from the anesthesia workroom when she quit working at the hospital. But she kept coming back for supplies.
