anyone from stony brook or nycom do 3rd or 4th year rotations at nassau university medical center?? opinions on them if u did. thanks for the help

Since no one is answering, I'll provide some hopefully useful info.
I did an medicine specialty elective at NUMC as a student a few years back - the rotation was pretty much the same as I've done in other academic hospitals. The expectations were to do consults, round with the fellow and attending, and go to the weekly conferences. The patients were a mix of AA and Hispanic pts, reflecting the local population. The service wasn't overwhelmingly busy and the teaching was pretty good. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to do residency there but being a student was all right. I've heard that the Surgery clerkship is very tough there but don't have personal experience with it.

I'm a 3rd year at Stony Brook. The only thing I've done at NUMC this year is psych. We saw some interesting cases, but there was way too much paperwork, and very little patient interaction outside of interviews with the entire team (i.e., attending, resident, social worker, medical students, miscellaneous). From what I've heard about others, they are pretty self-directed. You can be very involved, or you can round for a couple hours and disappear to the library, and no one will notice. I think from a grading standpoint, you will likely do better (and work fewer hours) than other places, but the learning and overall experience will be sub-par. Hopefully the administration will be able to equalize it somewhat.
