Hi,

Yeah, so did any of u get accepted & now will be attending a place you barely even considered when u were filling out your AADSAS Application last year? To clarify my question: I know that when you submitted ur AADSAS application, there were quite a few schools that made u salivate.... did u get into a school that u never really thought u were going to end up at? I mean In-state schools are great/convenient for financial purposes, but D-school is getting tougher to get into these days. So, I kinda find it amazing how people are getting in to Dental School and finding out that they're going to have to move to the other side of the country for the next 4 years 😎

I got into and really liked VCU, even though I knew nothing about the school and only applied because my wife "liked the idea of living in Virginia." It was actually a tough decision between there and Temple.

i can relate....i dont go to dental school yet but i know wut u mean....as long as the lady is happy...right?😀

My dad told me not to waste my time applying to Harvard since applying to an extra school would cost extra money. I did it anyways, not really knowing why since I didn't think I had a shot at all, because after all, I always thought "who gets into Harvard anyways..lol". Well, it turns out I got in and I'm heading there in the fall!

interviewed there for fun/experience/take off from school/travel....got in and will graduate in three more years!

I couldn't believe it! I remember it so well too. I was coming out of class (early September) and I had a new voicemail on my phone and when I checked it turned out it was the secretary at Harvard inviting me for an interview!! I can't tell you how many times I replayed that message on my way back to my dorm, since for some odd reason this happened to be the only time I can remember where I COULDN'T get in touch with anyone in my family! When I finally got in touch with my mom she totally flipped out!

However, it wasn't until I got accepted that I actually heard my mom swear: On January 19th at around 6pm I had just gotten back from the gym and my phone rang..it was Anne Berg, the admissions lady at Harvard! She then told me she would love for me to become a member of the incoming class and told me to take my time in thinking about it! Then I quickly called my mom only to hear the phrase "Holy ****" repeated over and over again!I still can't believe this!

I unknowingly applied to USC and surprisingly got an interview...and a few weeks later got the acceptance email!

Good question! There's no straight answer but I will tell you some of my stats since I really wish someone did this for me when I was applying (just so I knew what gets you in):

Undergrad: University of Connecticut (B..S. biological sciences, Honors Scholar, Magna Cum Laude)

sGPA: 3.65

GPA: 3.5

DAT 22/23/19

Research: 2 years on trigeminal nerve pain activation from inhaled irritants

Publications: 2 (primary author on one and a secondary author on the other)

Dental Experience: over 150 hours (shadowed several specialties; general, periodontology, pedo, ortho)

Volunteer activities: peer counselor, biology mentor, academic tutor, soup kitchen, habitat for humanity etc...

Extra: Lifeguard (7yrs), Swim Instructor (6yrs), Tennis club (UConn), student government exec. board

Certifications: LG, WSI, AED, First Aid

There's more but you get the point.

In all honesty, this, along with a unique personal statement and good LOR got my foot in the door but my interview is what got me in ultimately.

How on earth is a 3.5 Magna Cum Laude? What a joke. Honors are obviously very low and obtainable at Conn...

earth to you...a 3.5 is Magma Cum Laude at MOST schools; it is tabulated by looking at your last 66 hrs of course work; a 3.5 is the lowest cut off for magma...summa starts at 3.75

at my school, FSU, 3.5 is cum laude, 3.7 is magna cum laude, and 3.9 is summa...

jb!🙂

Same at my school. Maybe it differs among schools, but I've always thought the break-down was like this.

damn it! I knew I shouldn't have gone to ucla!!! Here is what we get here!!

Effective Fall 2006, the following apply:
CUM LAUDE: 3.638 min. overall GPA
MAGNA CUM LAUDE: 3.769 min. overall GPA
SUMMA CUM LAUDE: 3.862 min. overall GPA

If I get all A's this last quarter I would be 3.60, not even a cum laude.

Congrats King Chris. You had a lot of **** done to get into harvard! well deserved.

EArth to you, not all schools work that way. Take a look at all the replies saying their schools are higher.

Many schools look at your ENTIRE gpa, not the last 66 hours. Summa at my school started at 3.92

At Davis I believe its goes by percentile of your graduating class under the same college. Also I think to get high and highest honors you have to be enrolled in the honors program which you have to do an honors thesis or something.

"thanks for the vote of confidence, Dad" 🙄 lol. well you sure showed him.

Also, I think to be a magma cum laude at WSU you need to get like a 5.0, and have some sort of special heat-proof suit.

At my school (Carleton College)
Cum Laude = 3.25+
Magna Cum Laude = 3.5+
Summa Cum Laude = 3.9+

I was a transfer student to UConn, so that wasn't my graduating GPA. Thats my total GPA from the extra year at a different school.

i never expected to get into ucla, and i always thought that if i did, i wouldn't go there. since i was a freshman, i always heard how difficult it was there, and i didn't really care for the school. then when applying, i just applied bc it was a ca school, knowing very well that i wouldn't get in, bc my numbers weren't as good as everyone else that goes there. on top of that, i applied pretty late.

so i went to all my east coast interviews, and bc i wanted to move out to the east coast. afer my last interview, on my flight back from new york, when i had thought that i was all done, i get a call from noemi. I couldn't believe it! but i still didn't think i would go there, because i really wanted to move. i guess i just went to the interview to keep my options open.

and then the interview came. and i would say that i was a pretty solid interviewee, never got nervous or anything. but on the particular day of ucla's, i was a mess...i had been stuck in traffic, late to the interview, and just an all around mess! on top of that, after going to the school, i really liked it! before i could care less about ucla, i never wanted to go there, but that interview was a very pleasant experience, in terms of their faculty and students. so i thought i completely blew it. well, whatever, i wanted to move to the east coast anyway.

then the next week, i get the call from noemi, and i honestly couldn't have imagined how happy i was. it was the one school that i truly celebrated getting into. i still thought i would go back east, but it was nice to have an option here too. to me, it was a way to pove that i really wanted to move, bc most people move only if they have to...i really wanted to. but ucla just had wayyyyy tooo much to offer, and i couldn't let that go. and now, after deciding to stay here, i couldn''t be happier.

if you were to tell me a mere few months ago that i would be going to ucla next year, i would've laughed in your face. i never considered it, i never wanted to go there, i applied knowing that my money would be wasted. it's funny how things work out.

I don't normally do this. But can everyone do this forum a favor and please NOT respond to JENINNY44. Everything he/she says seems to be rude and starting trouble, whether it's putting down someone's school, or trying to belittle others on this forum. It just eggs him/her on when we respond to this nonsense. This forum is meant to help others, there is no room for bullies.

👍👍 jeninny44 has some serious issues and was obviously mocked and now takes it out his/her anger on forums.
