I got a phone call at 8:06 this evening! it was my very first!

Some of you guys were asking, so...I interviewed on 10/16, then was called back for a third interview on 11/13, which was scheduled for 11/26.

I keep rechecking my voicemail because I can barely believe it's real. : o )

Good luck to all of you guys still waiting! Just remember that they talked a lot about how they're really chill about how they look at applications. There's no rush and they want to make sure no one has a bad dinner (or something silly like that) negatively impact a decision on them. 🙂

You will get an email if either of those things happen. And yes, they reject/wait list/hold people every time they meet.

I got an email telling me that they were going to hold my application for further review on the Wednesday afternoon following a Tuesday meeting. So if you didn't get a call, either the committee didn't look at your application yet or you might get an email tomorrow. But who knows, maybe the assistant dean didn't have time to make any calls tonight. Good luck.

Is this "hold for further review" a good or bad thing? I havent gotten anything back from them either

Well, it beats a rejection. My interpretation is that it will either end up in a wait list or an acceptance. I figure that if they were going to reject me they would have done it and moved on. But this is purely speculation, so take it for what it's worth.

Congratulations!!! Hope you are celebrating.

So I had a long night in Molecular Biology.....had my phone on vibrate so I could know if I received a phone call. Finished class @ 9:30- nothing, thought to myself - "great, another acceptance day with no news!" Walked out to my car and the voice mail icon pops up. So I figure it's just my mom. Start listening to it and hear Dr. Schafer's voice telling me that I was accepted and was pretty much in shock. I don't know exactly what time she called because the call didn't come through evidently because the school building, but it was somewhere between 7pm and 9:30pm. Very good night! I'm estatic!😀

For those of you that want my timeline:
  • I was complete (secondary and LOR's) on 10/29
  • interview invite 10/30
  • interview 11/6
  • acceptance 11/28.

should we consider it bad if people who interviewed after us are getting acceptances before hearing anything. Because I interviewed on 10/16 and still have not heard anything?

No, there are many factors that are taken into consideration when your reviewed. Perhaps your faculty or student interviewer was late in turning in your paperwork. Or the committee couldn't come to an agreement about you (good thing cause that means some members really want you) I believe that at MSU something like 75% of the committee has to agree on you, opposed to just 50%.

Congrats Belle, I told you that a 3rd interview was a good thing!

thank you! someone else up there congratulated me too, but I don't know how to quote two things. but, thank you, too!

Well, the letter I got after my interview back in September said 10-12 weeks before they will re-evaluate my application. Tomorrow marks the 11th week and also happens to be a decision day. So, the end is near! Although, my application could go up for review next week since they will be meeting next Tuesday as well.

Did you get this letter because the committee could not make a decision on you?

Well, kinda, I was an unsuccessful EDP applicant.

GOT A CALL TODAY!!!! interviewed on 11/1. my first acceptance so excited!!!

Well, its almost that time. I dont even know if I'm even nervous this time, its been so long since my interview I'm almost convinced the waitlist is coming. Good luck to everyone though!

Well boys and girls, time for another evening filled with anxiety.

Anyone hear from MSUCHM yet tonight????

i interviewed on 10/4 and still no word. The flame of hope is slowly dwindling. Sad :beat:

Gosh that's awful. How frustrating. I wonder what their review system is....as it's obviously not chronological!

Has Dr. Shafer called anyone yet?

Been since 10/11 and I still havent heard a word. So much for an early christmas present

Seriously...

Well, looks like we best call it a night. It's almost 9pm and I don't know if she calls that late. Better luck next time, huh?!! It sure would be nice if they posted the Spring notification dates so we know when to start stressing again!

What's the tuition for MSUCHM?

For those of you who interviewed awhile ago (i.e., October dates) and have yet to receive a definitive decision, out of curiosity, what are your stats? Thanks.

Interviewed 10/25, decision made 11/27. I actually got the call at about 2:30pm on weds 11/28 (they somehow missed calling me the night before)

Oh interesting. Did Dr. Schafer say they missed calling you the night before? That must of been a pleasant surprise to get that call the next day!

feel free to look at my MDApps profile if you wanna see them

Anyone hear anything yet today (or last night) regarding their candidacy status at MSUCHM post-interview?

Yes, she did say that they missed calling me the night before. I was in class and my caller ID said MSU, so I thought they must be calling to tell me that I needed a second interview or some other issue. Needless to say I had a lot of trouble concentrating for the rest of the class.

Has anyone been waitlisted or rejected? People say that they do this at every meeting, yet no one has reported it yet.

True. Hopefully people will contribute more to this forum so the process can be a bit more transparent for us all.

I'm almost waiting for a massive waitlisting session to happen. Where thats all they decide at their meeting, and making so many of us so very disappointed. 🙁

If they are gonna waitlist me, just do it already! I dont want to have to get my hopes up just to see them fall every meeting night just to get waitlisted in March!

So, in a situation like yours, are you deemed 'on hold' I wonder? Or have they simply just not reviewed you yet for a final decision? They claim on their website there is no order for review, so do they just assign us all numbers from a random number generator and pick certain numbers to review? It just makes no sense that someone who interviewed in October does not have any inclination as to where they stand, yet someone who interviewed in early-mid November is already sitting on an acceptance. Again, it just begs the question, have you even been looked at yet post-interview???

I wish I knew! My status page still has the message "Thank you for attending Interview Day at CHM. Your application is being prepared for the Committee on Admissions. Your status will be updated once a final decision is made". The date on this message is 10/12. At least an 'on hold' message would give me some piece of mind.

O well, they did say specifically that people with later interviews may get acceptances before those with earlier dates. They also made it clear that some of us might not hear till the end of the cycle (gulp!:scared:) At least I havent been waitlisted or rejected....yet 😳

i remember dr. shafer saying that they take a lot of time reviewing files and it takes a significant agreement between the adcom to make a decision final. i think in a previous post somebody said that 75% of the committee has to agree on it. she also mentioned that files are reviewed in no particular order, and if there is a strong disagreement between the adcom members, she pulls the file out of the discussion for review at a later meeting.

so i suppose if you haven't got a decision yet then it means that a "significant" majority hasn't decided on you, which i take as a good thing because some adcom members must really want you

just my 2 cents

Placed on alternate list. Just found out about a half hour ago. Anyone have any idea if the alternate list moves and when in this process? Thanks in advance.

I was also placed on the alternate list after interviewing on Nov. 8th. I found out via e-mail - so for those of you that haven't heard anything, you are safe until the next review day 🙂

i was placed on the alternate list also.. just found out today. oh well 🙁

Maybe I hallucinated this, but at your interview, did Dr. Schafer say that most people placed on the alternate list ultimately get accepted? I swear she told us that. Do you guys recall such a statement?

They must have had a big day for alternates! Count me in too! I just wanted to know something, anything and at least I got that today. Alternate is better than rejected and even better than the incessant waiting with no idea whatsoever! Now I feel confident in sending in a deposit to one of the schools that actually wants me and send a letter of intent as I did really love the MSUCHM program. I'll just hope for the best as I am a firm believer in "if it is meant to be then it will be!" Good luck to all those accepted and best wishes to my fellow alternates~ here's hoping you end up where you really want to be!

I cant say that I remember such a statement, but that would be nice if it were true. But alas, I still havent heard a word from MSUCHM. I guess that means I have to wait a few more weeks before the start having meetings next year.

Sorry to hear some of my fellow interviewee's got placed on the alternate list today 🙁

I got the alternate list notification today as well. I'm really not even optomistic about my situation. Now I'm about 99% sure I will be a reapplicant, time to start thinking about retaking the MCAT... crap.

As for the alternate list movement, Dr. Shafer said that it varies from year to year. She explained that there have been years where everyone on the list gets in, while other years the list sees no movement at all.

I interviewed on the 4th of October and nothing yet. Not even alternate list.😕. I can only imagine what they are planning for me:beat:. So I guess that means i have to wait until the spring notifications to hear an update about my status. Good luck for all those who got waitlisted.

I wouldn't defer a year. Theres really only about a 150K difference over 4 years of med school between in state and out of state. So.. if you get a job that makes more than 150K a year, then its better to not loose that 1 year of a doctors salary.

MSU's tuition is ridiculous for OOS, borderline extortion, but oh well...

Anyone one know when they are gonna have the next meeting dates?
