While I was very excited an in-state school finally decided to give me a chance...after thinking things over, I've come to the tough decision to withdraw my application & interview appointment...no matter how I looked at it, I couldn't find a situation in which I would give up my Ohio State seat, so I feel selfish just wasting people's time/spot...I really hope that one of you guys still waiting out there get the spot b/c everyone on this thread has been great...and I still have to show love to my home state...best of luck all of you guys!!!

I have no qualms with this. Anything in particular you don't like about MSU?

Very respectable... and much appreciated.

Got a call at about 8.35 PM yesterday from (517)8441177.. Caller id said MI ST UNIV and they asked for my name .. and said they are calling from Michigan State Univ... when my mom said I was not there they asked for my number (cell phone). They made a call to my number but did not leave any message... So not sure what this call is about..
Question for people who got in last round.. do you guys recognize this phone number?

Not able to call this number back as it says this number cannot be reached. BWhen I did phone number lookup it says it is a Ameritech number registered in the name of ST UNIV MI at Lansing

Any ideas...😕

What ever came of this key3?

I can't say there is anything I don't like about MSU...I think it is definitely a great school...I feel OSU has an edge in research opportunities and established abroad rotations, both of which are important to me...probably the biggest reason is just personal though...I've just lived in MI too long and look forward to the opportunity to start somewhere new, where i know nothing/no one...most of my high school attended MSU undergrad, and several HS & college friends currently attend MSU for medical school...they all say great things about it too...and with the state of Ohio allowing students to gain residency for tuition purposes by 2nd year, it really is my best option to try out a new place!!

Has anyone received an acceptance from MSUCHM this cycle OFF of the WAITLIST? Just curious if the waitlist has seen any movement yet. Thanks!

As far as I know, no one has gotten accepted off the wait list. They interview for admission through April, so I wouldn't think the waitlist would budge until at least the end of April/beginning of May at the very earliest, but most likely not until the major movement after May 15.

Anyone else going to be anxiously sitting near their phone tonight? I know I will.....

C'mon, lady luck! :luck:

Wow, I'm it huh? Man, this next hour, hour and a half is gonna crawl even more with no one to commiserate with me...

I'm anxiously waiting too. Any idea how late the calls go out?

I have no idea, but I'm starting to get antsy. When did you interview? And if you get a call, please try to post here so I know if they're calling!!!!!

I interviewed on 2/26. What about you?
If I get a call I'll definitely let you know.

I interviewed 2/21, the day after they gave out the last decisions, so I was pretty hopeful that (if accepted) I would get a call tonight...come on phone, ring damn it!!!

Oh my word, I just got the call. I was starting to think this wouldn't happen for me.

I just kept thanking her for calling... I didn't know what else to say!!

I interviewed 1/24, and I think this is the third or fourth meeting since then, for those of you who are waiting.

Holy crap I'm gonna be a doctor!!!!

Congrats Runshare!!

Congrats RunShare!! C'mon, Dr Schafer, give me and jl a call now!!!

Ok, well, I give up. I'm giving in to the antihistamines now...if anyone gets an email tomorrow, let us know! Here's to (hopefully) next week...

Until tomorrow then...*heavy sigh*:d

Well, I got the rejection email this morning. Thanks for the love, alma mater. See if I ever make a donation...not even a freaking waitlist

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that. I know you were looking forward to this one. But it looks like you have some other awesome schools that you're waiting to hear back from, so good luck!

Yeah, I think my bitterness over this has about run it's course...I have the flu for the second time in two weeks, so it's left me with less patience than usual. Now, if I get two MORE post-interview rejections in the next few days (I should hear from the other two schools really, really soon) I might just lose it. Good luck to those of you still waiting to hear, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get in so we can share notes during first year classes next year if I end up at MSUCOM 🙂

Does anyone know if MSU-CHM allows OOSers to pay in state tuition after the first year?

I'm pretty sure Michigan's residency rules don't work that way...I think it's something along the lines of you have to work full time for a year to be considered a resident. If you search this thread a few pages back there was an OOSer advocating deferring for a year and working in Michigan to gain residency.

But I'm in-state so I haven't really looked into this in detail.

is anyone "on hold" for an interview still (this is the second time they put my app on hold). Am I just an idiot to think MSU is actually interested--cuz I can't tell if they are just toying with me or actually interested in me. Mid March seems insane to still be waiting for an interview...right? Cheers.

PS congrats Runshare!

Thanks! I thought I heard that they interview through April. If so, I'd say you definitely still stand a chance. Can't hurt to call the office and ask, right?

yeah, this is my second time on hold too....first on 10/09 (pre LOR), then they asked for my LOR on 1/29 (my birthday actually lol), then on 3/4 i got the dreaded hold email....the office lady said it isnt necessary a bad thing. i suppose that maybe they are just keeping ppl they really want to come back to on hold and weeding out the rest - well at least this is how i convince myself to feel better 😕 and yes they interview through april, and the lady daid that invites still go out through march and i think beginning april. hopefully we both get interviews🙂

what was ur timeline (LOR request, first hold date, etc.)

I thought they interviewed until the beginning of April? Did they extend their interview season?

oh my god!!! I got the call tonight - on the 18th!! I didn't even think they met until the 25th! I was watching a hockey at a rink with no reception when Dr. Shafer tried to call at 845pm. Later, I was getting ready for bed and about to set the alarm on my phone when I noticed I had a voicemail. As I heard her say "this is Dr. Shafer from the College of Human Medicine" I was in utter disbelief. I am sooo glad that i didn't speak with her live - because the first thing I screamed when I heard the word accepted was "holy ****!"
I am so incredibly happy!!! I don't think I will ever get to sleep tonight!!😀

On the waitlist too. I believe the waitlist will move significantly late May.

Congrats on the acceptance! Did you by any chance attend UCD in CA for undergrad (judging from your handle)?

Yep. I graduated with my BS in BS in 02.🙂

Hey if anyone needs a roommate let me know - I've got 2 rooms in the Hamptons available! 🙂

If you make all loan payments on time for the first 3 years of your repayment period, then the interest rate drops to zero. That can be a pretty big advantage.

Not sure if this poster is still around this thread but... Can anyone confirm or deny this statement? Any elaborations? It just seems too good to be true.

I can confirm it. Keep in mind as an Out of State you are paying 60K a year. Even with only 3 years of interest the loan companies are making great money.

On the other side, if you miss a payment your screwed.

Like most schools, there are many options for re-paying your debt including payments that are adjusted to how much you currently make.

If you stay in michigan for residency they give you like 35K back (or something like that)

PM me if you want more info on the specifics of MSU's Financial Aid

I don't understand why MSU's out of state costs are so damn expensive.

Probably because they can. It's just like the price of anything really - if no out of staters were willing to pay that much to go to medical school, they'd probably have to lower it. But that's not happening any time soon....

I was trying to find more info on this online somewhere but came up empty. I couldn't find any mention of it on the financial aid office website either. If you do have any more info, I'd appreciate it.
