anyone get any secondaries recently?

I applied to five (NOVA, philly, lake erie, new york, and chicago) and have received three from NOVA, lake erie, and philly. to my knowledge, D.O. schools don't screen for secondaries, but i could be wrong.
 
I am pretty sure that Osteopathic schools DO screen before sending secondaries. That is, you must meet a minimum gpa requirement in order to receive a secondary application (usually around 2.75 or above). This might not be the rule for every school, but I was thinking that it was the case for the majority.

Anyone know when NYCOM typically sends their secondaries out? I'm going abroad for a month this weekend and wanted to get that sucka in before I left since its my first choice...
 
NYCOM does not send secondaries. You fill out the secondary information at the interview, if you are granted one. I did not interview there but I sent my AACOMAS to them and got a post card that stated the above. I have read here on SDN that you fill it out at the interview. I withdrew from NYCOM after I was accepted to VCOM.
 
no way...thats a suprise, but is very valuable information mison...

do you remember how long after they recieved your primary until they notified you of your interview? I may just call them up and tell them to email me any information since I'll be away...

Received AZCOM, PCOM, UMDNJ-SOM, NOVA and have filled out UNECOM's already because it is available on-line. Still waiting on CCOM, UHS-COM and KCOM's (although I probably won't bother filling out KCOM's because the school is soo rural).

Got DMU's, and PCOM secondaries thus far. my app was sent to schools on 6/30.
 
mine were mailed June 30 as well and I have yet to receive anything. good luck everyone.
 
received PCOM and UMDNJ-SOM today. PCOM's comes with a mini cd. time to get to work.
 
Talked to KCOM today (7/7), and secondaries are coming online in one to two weeks.
 
received MSU's today- it was send to my email address
 
Of the schools I applied to(9 DO schools total = AZCOM, LECOM, KCOM, CCOM, AZCOM, UHS-COM, NSUCOM, Touro, Western)

CCOM
AZCOM
Touro

all three of these told me "Congratulations, you made it past the first step...etc...blah blah..."....it was some variation on this statement in regards to meeting minimum requirements (MCAT, GPA).

All the other 6 schools sent secondaries without regard to meeting any sort of requirements(or at least they didnt mention that in the cover letter that came with the secondary).

Eventually, I turned them all down to go to Nova...for me, it was hands down...the best school I visited in every aspect of being a top-notch medical school!

which secondaries are via email and which are mailed? I got DMU from email and PCOM from snail mail. MSU said they emailed it to me but um...I didn't get it so I guess they have to try again...shiznit.

What about AZCOM and CCOM? Are those found via snail mail?
 
CCOM and AZCOM send via snail mail. AZCOM is fairly quick after you submit you primary. However, CCOM hasn't sent me a secondary yet even though my application went out in mid-June. There response to my inquiry was that secondaries would be sent out in a couple of weeks.

For those of you who have gotten MSUCOM's secondary, what was the turn-around time on that? From the time that the aacomas site said that your primary application had been sent to your schools....

i turned my app on June 30, and got my MSU secondary today (7/8)
 
I've applied to 10 DOs, but only received 3 secondaries so far, what's up with that?

I have AZCOM, NJ, and NOVA. Not received PCOM or the others. It seems other have received the PCOM. Should I be calling?
 
My app was just sent out to schools today. When can I expect secondaries? Am I late?!?

Hang in there everyone.....it's still EXTREMELY early in the process. I didn't even submit my AACOMAS until the middle of October. I still had a secondary from every school I applied to and went on 2 interviews before I took an acceptance. So try not to worry 🙂

As far as screening goes.....yes there are quite a few that screen for secondaries. I know that some schools won't send a secondary unless you meet their minimum requirements and others will only send out secondaries that they may have an initial interest in.

As far as Chicago goes, I'm pretty sure they screen. Even though that's where I'm going, I can still tell you there are many things I'm unsure of. 😱

You're going to CCOM? I am really interested in that school. I think that AZCOM and CCOM both screen for the secondaries. I just got my AZCOM and I guess the CCOM is on its way. Can you tell me more about your experience with that process? I'd appreciate it. BTW I work as a Care Extender at SM-UCLA =)
 
I received my AZCOM and CCOM applications almost at the exact same time last year (though I am an IL res). I think they do screen before the send out, but only for minimums. I received acceptances to both, but decided to go to AZCOM. So, if you have any questions about AZCOM, feel free to ask. If I can't answer them, I'm sure I know someone who can.

As for PCOM, if others have started to receive theirs and you haven't, I would call. I know they said they sent mine and it never got to me. I called and they resent it. Also, be sure to check that they receive everything YOU send. My application was lost in the mail and I had to resend it (though my first check seemed to make it okay). 😳) Nonetheless, they were very nice and understanding--perhaps my acceptance was due to sympathy.

Anyway, good luck on everything and try to relax (it makes the process much more enjoyable). The hardest part is over--this is the fun part.

were the interviews for CCOM and AZCOM difficult? I'm currently an aerospace engineer at Boeing and recently decided to go to medical school...I decided to go DO because a DO helped me with my asthma when I was a middle schooler and afterwards the seasonal asthma didn't come back again...and that's why I am going DO even though my dad is an MD...actually after my experience he went to continuing medical education and learned OMM...kinda cool huh? My stats are: GPA - 3.55 and MCAT - 30 and I've volunteered at a hospital and private practice for about a year. I've also been an elderly companion and special education tutor...I hope that's convincing enough that I wanna be a doctor...

You shouldn't have ANY problem at all. The interviews for CCOM and AZCOM weren't bad (I didn't think). They really just seemed like they wanted to get to know me better. I had a couple strange questions--but nothing too difficult. Others said they had a bad panel, but I cannot attest to that.

Your very diverse life experiences will only add to the unique way you will answer questions (you impressed me anyway).

Me too i applied to 6 and only have DMU and KCOM secondaries

I am still waiting for PCOM, CCOM, Western, TUCOM

maybe calling is a good idea?

TUCOM - email however there's a link on the website too

got the PCOM and UMDNJ-COM secondaries.

How many DO schools require that you have a letter from a DO?

In the letter from UMDNJ, it says that they don't require one but if you have one it will be added to your file (which is kind of stupid to say, of couse it will be added to your file)

OU-COM is now sending secondaries via email. Actually, the email sends you to a web site link and you can then download a PDF application 🙂
 
TUCOM has their secondary online on the admissions page of their website and you may start it at any time. HOWEVER, you may not send it in unless you are invited to do so (via snail mail as may of you have noticed).

TUCOM screens all primary applications and so that is why you may not send it in until you are invited. They have it online so that applicants that really want to be ahead of the game can have it finished and ready to go the same day they get the invite to send it in. Also, if you are computer savy enough, you can save the file off of the HTML and have it computer typed as opposed to hand written.
 
what is the deal with these 2 schools? In another thread someone mentioned NYCOM has no secondary.

Have anyone heard from CCOM?

My application went out 7/14, I have received TUCOM, Nova, LECOM, AZCOM, PCOM, MSUCOM, OSUCOM, Kirksville, WesternU/COMP, DMUCOM, UHSCOM, and still waiting for NYCOM, CCOM, VCOM, and Pikeville.
 
I got CCOM in the mail today. I toured Western today as well...not too bad =)
