Hi! I'm writing secondaries for some osteopathic schools. I feel it's starting to get close to late but I feel like I'm still a competitive applicant for this cycle, see my WAMC and please let me know if you disagree:

Help! WAMC + School Suggestions 3.75/517 - NY Resident

Having been on the receiving end by an OMT specialist, I'm genuinely super passionate about learning it and I would like to talk about wanting to proliferate OMT and bring it further into the public eye, making OMT as well known as flu shots, as an example. I often see some people who are skeptics of certain parts of OMT like craniosacral on here and the premed subreddit. Some of them believe OMT actually holds DOs back compared to their MD counterparts (NOT my opinions), and I'm wondering if these rationales could have made it onto an admissions committee, making my zeal for OMT into a "turnoff" for them? How passionate are adcom members usually for advancing OMT to the general public?

Reddit? The cesspool of the Internet????

Ignore those people.

I'm at a DO school. We're pro-DO. OMT is part of the package. How do you think Adcoms at DO schools would appreciate a candidate being pro-OMT???

What will go over even better is showing how you have walked the walk as opposed to merely talking the talk.

I'm guessing you have not had any interviews from your MD list? Hmm.

Could you tell us more... which prompts are you answering asking about OMT?
Thank you for responding! It's a fair assumption, I do have two ii's so far for my top two MD schools (completed late aug to all 15 MD schools), but applying is a numbers game for sure, so I want as many apps in as I can manage emotionally and financially. Multiple school secondaries have prompts about our experiences with osteopathic medicine and how it influenced our decision to apply. I'm a big believer in OMT since getting treatment from doc that did an OMT residency and finally being able to walk around without pain again after a crash. I wanted to talk about how important learning OMT specifically is to me and being able to offer that kind of relief to patients. I was just worried because there are people who have serious reservations about OMT, and was curious if those opinions would have made it on to an admissions committee, but the matter seems cleared up now!

This definitely helps quell the neuroticism, thank you so much!

You are worrying to a friendly audience, but I understand not sounding like Pollyanna.

My experience does not include DO admissions, but I would reasonably consider a dash of curiosity, especially about the evidence supporting OMT. Forum members and faculty here can help shape that perception, but for admissions "game play," express enthusiastic curiosity too (my suggestion).

If it’s me, I would show your interest and personal experience with OMT but not pin your whole interview on it. Because they can see when your application was submitted. It’s no mystery late submissions are due to no MD love. Now if you submitted early and went all in on enthusiasm then it could appear more genuine.
