At a school where preclinical grades are factored into AOA selection, has anyone been selected even though they had average preclinical grades (no honors) but good clinical grades? I'm just trying to gauge what kind of record is needed to get AOA. For instance, are AOA inductees honoring about half their first 3 year classes, etc.

Thanks.

I think the formula used depends upon the school. At the ones with which I'm familiar, they just use a set number of honors as a cut-off for AOA - these H's could be at any point before fourth year. Then they analyze a candidate's performance individually if he/she makes the cut-off.

I know several people who had less-than-stellar preclinical grades, but aced all of their clerkships and were elected to AOA.
