I want to apply in June, and I don't really have any volunteering experience (except volunteering to teach kids and adults art classes during summers at a summer camp).

It's not like I'm sitting around doing nothing though, I am a "non trad" so I've been working full time, am involved in church choir, shadow a dentist every week, and work on personal art projects (have a gallery show every year).

How important is it that I volunteer in a medical setting? When I browse everyone's stats it seems like a standard for admission? :/ I would love to volunteer though it would be difficult to squeeze into my schedule as it is right now...and there are only a few months left until I apply so wouldn't it kind of look like "oh she just volunteered for a bit to put it on her application"?

Has anyone gotten in/interviews without participating in volunteer activities? What kinds of ec's did you have?

I haven't done much volunteering due to lack of time (played a sport). I did a little Big Brother and H for H, but nothing much. I mean, volunteering can definitely help, but it's more to show that you are well rounded. It involves helping people, communication, being socially involved. If you are busy and still did a little volunteer work, it shows you cared. Don't worry about getting 500 hours like a lot of people.
