Hello Friends....Im new here and have just started the preparation for NBDE just now.I hope i can find anyone who has started preparing seriously very recently so that we can plan together and read.Presently i have decks and Mosby.I will be getting papers and others asap.but i have started with what i have.Any guidance also will be higly appreciated....on how to focus,how many months of preparation required,what to stress on etc.

Please reply...i have all my hopes on ur valuable replies.

Hello Dr. Ali...thanks for replying🙂i have not chalked out plan of when to take the exam as yet and am still in the initialising process of finding out the details of the exam taking.Im In India right now..and will be mving to NJ around Feb end.
But thats gr8 that u also are starting right now!!!Why dont we plan each subject and work out deadlines and do it??

When are you planning to take up the exam...and can u give me a reference as to when and acc to what we have to plan the exam timing.

I will give all information that i have collected till now.I have read that about 4-6 months of preparation is ok.Stress is on decks and released papers.what i wanted to also know is that a new pattern has been adopted..and hope no new topic has been added to the syllabus.

If u are ok with the combined study,then we work out the details of each day as it comes.

Great to know that u also are starting the preparations.I suggest we start immediately or else it will be just a discussion and forgotten soon.I have seen many study groups doing quite well.

I have started with Anatomical Sciences from the decks06-07.tell me if it is ok with u guys.today i had researched on the methods adopted by ppl here...and here is what i found interesting.Wonderful inputs Given by Meghana.God bless her!!

start with decks...u shd aim to finish abt 10-12 decks per hr giving particular importance to the explanations at the back. no problem if u r slow at first...u will surely pick up the pace as u go along...and will able to finish more decks in an hr...the important thing is to revise...so say every 2 days..do go back to what u have read the previous days..and revise..it will take u sometime..and maybe u will find u do not remember much...but thats okay..its normal..BUT DONT BE DISAPPOINTED AND START ON A NEW TOPIC...i have done that mistake...and i dont want u guys to do the same...thing is when u do that what happens is, in the end...ur brain is in a mesh of mixed information and then u will end up not remembering ANYTHING properly. if u think u dont remember, scan everything once again...try to question urself and find the answers without looking...when u r sure u r okay with it,only then start with the next set of decks...

u will find that when u stick to ur routine study hrs..u will concentrate more...when u concentrate..u will remember more...u will be enthusiastic when u find ur memory is improving day by day..then...on weekends...revise EVERYTHING u had read during that week. every fortnight..just go thru what u have studied for 2 weeks. i know this sounds silly..but we r not machines guys..revising is the only way u can retain 1000s and 1000s of pages of information. also every revision will take much lesser time than the previous. my friends who have written this exam say that whatever u study it shd be thorough or there is no point coz we r not writing essays here.

so, lets study precise and to the point.

well...what im thinking is all of us have our own speeds.lets see for 2-3 days and we'll know abt each others speed.

for now...since no one is starting with any suggestion on a subject..im starting.tell me if ur ok with this idea.

today is 25th.lets start with 40 questions from anatomy with explanations.im sure u wud have started preparation before.so we can revise 2 hours of previous one.i dont have question paper...but if u have..u can start with the most recent one...and then go backwards.

so it means-

40 anatomical science questions from decks
2 hours revision of previous whatever u have studied.
1 previous paper.(i dont know how much time this takes...have no papers with me..but its for all of u)

also...since we have time...whatver topic comes in the decks...we can refer to the text about this topic.lets come back at 10 in the night IST.check ur times accordingly and reply.

lets see this pattern and then devise our plan again.this one is from me for the 25th for the time being.if u are following other pattern...let me know.only if we are true to each other,then only we can study united or its pointless.if anyone wants any other subject..we'll start from tomorrow.for today,its anatomy for about a week.also tell me what changes u feel has to be done with the routine.and calculate how much time each takes for each thing...i.e for 40 decks how much time and so on.... so we can decide on a common plan🙂

hey drali...im planning to give the exam in may.how much have u finished with and what pattern have u been following?

if someone is following text,then i suggest this pattern...

3 hours of anatomy text /subject matter
2 hours of anatomy decks
2 hours of previous study revision


and then u can come and reply at end of day whchever routine u feel comfortable with.

huh....u mean wht topic in anatomy or which part like histology,embryology etc??hey pls dont ask questions...u just tell what u are reading for that day...so that it motivates the other!!if u ask me,start with strict anatomy part which includes scalp,triangles..u know the anatomy that is interesting...subj wise.otherwise in decks if u look at,its all mixed up,so it doesnt matter there.

revised about 36 anatomy questions from decks
revised topics from mosby regarding - arterial,venous n lymph supply of head n neck
read a new topic on thoracic cavity..still have to finish it

I think your plan is good. Today I am planning on reading the Nervous System, maybe I will not be able to cover all the cranial nerves. Right now, I am using Kaplan Review and I also selected the decks cards that cover the nervous system.

Hi rose82, the decks cards are mixed up but on the upper right corner you can see what chapter they are covering. I have the original paper decks, not on a CD. It is 4pm(PT) and I didn't finish everything I wanted to cover but writing in this forum is a motivation for me to study as much as possible. How about you? What did you cover today?
I am going back to my studying. I slept a good 2 hours this afternoon so I think I'll stay up late today and try to finish the Nervous System. Good luck with your studying!👍

hi raluca...that was it.i had written that i read abt thorax..1 page is yet to be completed,revision of a previous topic and few decks.after that i was reading for toefl yesterday

buti dont have topics in my decks...its all mixed up.lucky u🙂

today i plan to read on muscles of the arm,axilla etc.will complete the thorax part and if possible do a few decks.i still need to get my hands on kaplan n papers...

i'll come back at night and write my progress!all the best raluca...hope u completed ur portions!its motivating for me also...i never started seriously...but once i got hooked onto this forum...i realised the intensity and started having a focus.nothing better like encouraging each other!!!🙂

p.s:i have a doubt...is kaplan material the same as kaplan online question bank?is kaplan in form of questions...or subject matter?coz thr is a topic in the comm abt kaplan online question bank and im confused abt that....

Kaplan has a Review. which is a book that covers all disciplines and they also have the Qbank, which are the online questions. I am reading from the book.
Today, I am planning on finishing the Nervous System and I was thinking of starting with endocrine system, Kaplan Review book and decks..I think Kaplan Review is very good because it covers more than the decks. Good luck with your studying today !

Hi kets and pulp, welcome in our group and good luck! This week, I've started with Microbiology from Kaplan Review and I am also doing the Micro dental decks. It goes very slow, I couldn't finish yesterday what I had planned on studying and today I didn't have a very good day either, that's why I came to the forum, to gain some confidence and motivation.

Hi, you can find books on ebay or amazon, barnes and noble, www.dentaldecks.com. depending on what books you are looking for. I think the cheapest, used books, are on amazon. Hope it helps, good luck!

I think that NBDE First Aid is helpful but my main source is Kaplan Review and Dental Decks

Yes, I think it is enough. You may want to try NBDE First Aid for Part I or Mosby's Review

The DentEssential I think is the one that you are getting with the QBank. I am talking about Kaplan Review, it has around 1000 pages and you are usually getting it by joining the Kaplan course. But I think you can buy this book from Kaplan without joining the course, you can check on their website, or from EBay, used
