Anyone have a Loma Linda interview yet?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, I am a D1 at LLUSD and I will tell you what the interview is like. You get to the school about 30-45 minutes early (do this is you are serious about getting in, it looks TERRIBLE when people show up 5 minutes before). When you get to the school, ride the elevator up to the infamous 5th floor as soon as you get off the elevator, there will be a door straight in front of you/little to your right that says "Admissions"...go in that door. There will be a lady to greet you, be very nice to her and everyone else you interact with. You will be appalled at how friendly people are. She will give you a sheet to fill out and give you a 1 page essay on the back of the sheet to do. I think my question was "how have you used your faith to get you to this point?" Then she will give you a folder with various info in it (stats of this year's entering class, international dental program info, etc...) and you will sit there and wait for your interviewer. While you're waiting, she gives you an iPod Touch with videos of the D4/D3/faculty missionary trips to watch.

When the time comes, your interviewer will come and get you from the admissions office and take you for a 1-on-1 interview. Don't be nervous (easier said than done I know) because they just want to get to know you. This interview more than any other interview I've ever went on (3 others) is laid back. They mainly want to know what makes you tick, how close you are to your family, how dependent on your faith you are, etc...If you've overcome any major obstacles in getting here, now is the time to speak. At LLUSD we respect people more for realizing they're not perfect than for putting on a front and being fake. Just be yourself in the interview, it's not about your grades or DAT scores anymore...or you wouldn't have even been offered an interview. Trust me, they DO NOT waste their time interviewing people they do not "want" to accept. The only way you can hose this up is to have bad manners, be arrogant, or to come off as ingenuine.

So, after your interview...a D3/D4 will come get you from the 5th floor admissions office and take you on a tour of the clinic, first floor classes/labs, etc...to show you the school. After this, you'll be done for the day.

Words of advice...if you are sincerely interested in doing lots of community service/missionary trips this is the time to mention it (at your interview). Basically, make your sincere "wants" meet up with their strengths. Do not lie, because you will be unhappy if you do that and go here. I'm just saying to be aware of the strengths of the school because that makes you more prepared and it makes them realize you're really interested in what the school has to offer. Also, mention that you want to go to a school that has a very strong clinical program, which LLUSD does. I've heard many people say this school ranks in the top 3 year in and year out for clinical exposure....i.e., you get more oral surgery competencies here, more perio comps, etc...If you come from a low-income family, bring that up. Tell the interviewer that, in your opinion, you can readily communicate/relate to patients because you grew up struggling to make ends meet. So, again, mold yourself to the motto of the school "to make man whole" and "service is our calling" and you should do well. At the end of the day, that's what makes me happy...to know I made a difference in someone's life. If you really enjoy dentistry for what it is (helping people) you will LOVE LLUSD. Please inbox me if I can help you in any way. Best wishes and all the best to you. Good luck!!!

So i just got an interview invite to LLU and I called to set up a date and time....and the next recent interview was for Jan 11th...is that normal? It seems so late for just getting the email today.

Well I'm not sure how long ago they started giving out interviews (maybe since the beginning of September?) but the group days filled up almost immediately. I know that they are holding interviews during the week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, but I'm not sure how many people they interview each day. Maybe that's why the next available interviews are in January? Sorry, can't help much. Don't forget that although you got the invite today, some people received the invite weeks ago, so spots have been filling up since then.
