Haha! We interviewed exactly ten days ago. I'd give the another couple of weeks before I create a thread just like this...

Thanks a lot everyone!!!!! I'm super excited too!!! I was sitting here in the Sheilds reading room when she called and dozing off (from all the studying), then I awoke from my cell phone ringing--sure enough it was a 310 area code.... 🙂

No email, just a call. She says she is sending out the acceptance information in the mail tomorrow.

No wonder they loved you. With your help, UCLA's stats are gonna sky rocket. Last year they had an average of 3.56. What's it gonna be this year, 3.75?

I called Penn and they said their class is looking at a 3.7 average this year. That's pretty insane.
 
I have 4/4 too... 4 fingers on each of my hands... but I'm going to still be a great dentist because I still have my thumbs. 👍

PS Hope I didnt offend anyone... I make lame jokes.

I'm interviewing there on Monday, anything you can tell me to prepare.

I don't have a 4.00, but I've had a 3.9 for the past 3 years, after returning from a two year academic leave and switching majors. Overall still sucks, hopefully my DAT will make up for it.

#1 Be relaxed, #2 be yourself and #3 be there on time.

The interview gives the interviewers the the opportunity to interact with you to see what you are like in person. The questions are similar to those in the interview feedback section of sdn. Just answer truthfully and you have no problems. The interview is open application so they will know a lot about you before the interview. Chances are, if you're application is impressive, they will already be impressed and that will help carry the interview in a positive direction.

In my interview, we didn't talk about my academic achievements, it was very casual and conversational, all in the efforts to learn more about me as a person: my hobbies, things I like to do other than acadamia, my interests and future goals. From the interview they take in a lot about you and this will determine your acceptance. If they really like you, they will basically tell you that you will be accepted at the interview. The interviewers at UCLA have the power to do that.

If you're flying in and need hotel information, let me know (PM me). I stayed a couple blocks from the school and that was super convenient in that I didn't have to deal with the traffic. So goodluck and relax! :luck:
 
Don't go to the interview thinking about what they are going to ask you or if your stats are good enough to be accepted. instead, try to enjoy LA and the campus and see if you want to go there. you got the interview because they want you, now its your opportunity to evaluate the school based on your expectations. When i interviewed there, I got there a day early to walk around the entire campus and the surrounding area. I know you don't go to class on campus, but you should still check it out. so just be relaxed and laid back and just soak in everything. theres my 2 cents.

KAP is right. Get to LA early if possible and really get aquainted with the place. Since Monday is the big day, see if you can afford staying out there over the weekened until interview day. This will give you time to settle in and check out the sites. This allowed me to see the city and spend a day walking around the dental school/hospital to see where I'll be for the next four years. I also scoped out the stores nearby and places where I'd be shopping.

Like KAP said, don't try to pre-reherse the interview questions and exactly what you are going to say because it may come our sounding "pre-rehearsed" and the interviewers can sense it. Again, just be relaxed--you've come a long way in the interview process and there must be something very special about you to be granted an interview at UCLA--so show them what makes you special. 😉
 
Hmmm there's an interview coming up? Maybe I got bumped until that next adcom review cause I still haven't heard back and Noemi doesn't seem like she is still taking phone calls.

raZ10, I so hope to see you, EyeAmCommi, & Mrxle3 at UCLA. All three of you are very nice people with great stats. I'm sure you all will be a great addition to UCLA Class of 2010. I so hope to see you all in the Fall and I still really believe you have a very good chance to get accepted.

It's hard for me to pinpoint where I went wrong. I think I'm just really bad at selling myself. In person, I rarely talk about myself so for me to be at an interview where they just want to have a "conversation" about me is hard. I should have known better. I should have just started rambling about my volunteering, my extra curriculars and stuff and they probably were expecting that and I didnt give it to them...man Raz10. Life sux.

PS. Noemi is sending out letters in a few weeks to inform us what position on the waitlist we'll be in.
 
Just hang in there, hopefully some applicants won't follow through with the deposit. It sucks. I understand your pain (like when they put me on the alternate list at UOP.) 😕

I know how you feel. You can't look back and think about what you should have done differently. if you were being yourself, that is GREAT! its better to be yourself than someone rambling off your extracirriculurs (which they already know about) and other stuff off your resume. They arent trying to see if you can sell yourself. they want to know what you want from the school and see if you are excited and confident about being there. thats what i believe at least.

Any info on how many they take off the wait list each year?
I knew that I should have applied earlier, thought there were people there that applied in June, so my December app. still got me it at the same time as them......weird!
 
I just got the call from Noemi 2 hours ago. Accepted!

It's funny that if it's high school a phone call from the dean's office is bad, in college it's GREAT!

I've been off of SDN for weeks. I thought my addiction to this site is cured but now I'm back! WAhaha. This is for Mahya also. So, I learned that waitlists for UCLA means that I will have to wait til the summer for a decision. The class will be filled first before the summer starts of course and anyone who drops out THEN will be considered for admission off the waitlist.

UCLA will be sending out letters eventually to let us know whether we are in the top, middle, or bottom of the waitlist.

By the way, I've finally been accepted to a school...NYU! Just thought I'd let you know!

Congratulations "Lauren." At least Dr. Marcus accepts somebody...haha.
