Jlee, you said that the committee will probably meet this week...will they make decisions and send out, or will they send out a batch later on in the year? I was looking through last year's threads and davis was still interviewing way beyond march 15 and it seemed that most of the people didn't hear back until april/may. I was hoping to hear some news this week, but I guess I should go chill out for a little bit more, eh?

I interviewed Nov 5 and have been going crazy waiting. I called them last week and they told me that their committee would be meeting for the first time this week and that i should hear back soon after. But then i called them yesterday and i was told that my file hadn't been reviewed yet and probably wouldn't be for another couple of weeks. Has anyone else called and gotten any different (or the same) information? Has anyone heard anything post-interview yet?

i interviewed at davis in late october and heard back from them right before thanksgiving.

but i think with the holidays that they are a little backed up.

good luck guys!

i am assuming that they are gonna meet on thursday?? and then let us know soon after that...i remember ed telling me that they would send out email acceptances and not letters...so if i assume they meet on thursday they will prolly have decisions for us early next week...

but this is all speculation...😀

i hope they are meeting today. i interviewed in early december though, so this would be about 6 weeks like they said. but i figure if none of you have heard and you interviewed in nov. there probably is not much chance of me hearing for awhile longer. does anyone know how often their committee meets? anyway, i hope we all hear good news in the not so distant future!

I just got an interview invite today, so maybe something's in the works for y'all.

congrats lessismoe! i hope it goes well for you. read the interview feedback site and you'll be all set cuz the questions are off a standard list. Good luck 🙂

Thanks azpremed! Yeah, I have a friend that works for one of the interviewers, so she's going to be hooking me up with some of the types of questions they ask.

Oh, and incidentally, for those of you still waiting for an interview, I was able to get one on Jan 28. Looks like there are still plenty of interview slots left.

i'm kinda getting worried about Davis too. I sent in my secondary application second to last week of November and I still haven't heard anything. 🙁

Hey Pix, I was complete in late Oct. so there's still hope.

Sorry, I meant to post this sooner, but I had LASIK yesterday and was told not to stare at a computer screen.

So, for you who have already interviewed, how do know which interviewers UCD pairs you up with? Do they send you more info? I'm trying to decide whether or not to rent a car. Thanks friends!

Hey Lessismoe,

When you get to the interview they will give you your interview assignments. You start the day with a talk from the admissions director, then take a tour with students and you can see a class too maybe. You have lunch with students and then on my day everyone headed out to Sacramento to the medical center for faculty and student interviews. Some of us did not get a student interviewer because they did not have enough people, so you will have either 1 or 2 interviews. There is a shuttle that can take you to Sacramento or you can get a ride with another interviewee maybe. I live here so I had a car and just drove myself. Personally, I thought that was much easier but I am not sure it would be worth renting a car just for that. But if you want to look around the durrounding area before or after the car would probably be worth it cuz the public transit b/w Sacto and Davis is not really that great. Hope that helps 🙂

Thanks! Yeah, I actually went to Davis for my undergrad, so I know the surrounding area-- I just wasn't sure what to expect the "day of" (as in, how much advance notice I'd have for getting to my interview if it was in Sac). Thanks for quelling my fears!

Yeah, I'm also considering staying an additional day to hang out with my friend's sister, who is a first-year there right now. Honestly, I just want an excuse to stay long enough to eat at Osaka Sushi one more time--- MMMMM!

anyone heard anything post-interview from davis yet???they are soooooooooo slow.

seriously girl...

i always wondered how many of the files they get to look at on their meeting day. do they not stop until they are done with the group that interviewed before their meeting?

are we getting pushed back for next month?

i never had a problem about waiting since i never really knew when schools met and stuff, but since im sure they have already met this month its getting to be annoying haha. its too soon not to care anymore and just forget about it for now and be surprised when i find out something, but at least i have other things to keep my mind off it for a little while.

at least we be waiting together as a group and not alone.🙂

I interviewed early Nov. I emailed Terri about my app yesterday:

They have not looked at my file yet since the interview.

Waiting endlessly.....

interviewed mid-november. accepted today. (snail mail)

good luck.

Congrats 411!

And thanks for the update. Now I'm excited to go home and check the mail, though I interviewed in early Dec. so I know I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Wow 411, you rock! 2 UC acceptances in one week--that must be sooooooooo awesome 🙂

congratulations 411!

finally they have some news....mid november you say? good cause i was near the end of november so they should be getting close to me.

thats nice to know...

Just to let y'all who are waiting know, when I interviewed this week, they said only 24 people had been sent acceptances so far.

1) Did they by chance mention how many interviewees have been rejected and how many have been placed on hold?

2) Also, did they say what the average wait time is from the date that you interview till you hear anything.... or are they still saying 6-8 weeks?

3) And finally, (just out of curiosity of course) did they say how many people they have sitting in limbo now - people who were interviewed but have not heard anything since?

Or am I trying to look a gift horse in the mouth? :wow:
Thanks for the info... I'm just not good at waiting.
<twiddles thumbs>

i doubt terri told lessimoe all this haha. shes not a statistical machine 😉.

i think they will always say 6-8 weeks just to be consistent.

and many are sitting in limbo right now. just look at us.

regardless just figure davis is gonna take their sweet time and just forget about it. if you get the letter then sweet. if you get the email then vent to us.

but some of the sdn members that attend davis also waited a long time to get their acceptances but most of them got in. so this is a common thing with them. good luck tho.

Hey, yeah, to fill y'all in on what I heard, they said ~150 people had been interviewed and 24 had beed accepted. They said it is taking 5-7 weeks to get reviewed. They said they RARELY reject anyone after the interview (i.e. you have to make a complete A$$ of yourself in the interview), and most people get put in the "hold" pile for review later on.

Incidentally, a friend who works with an interviewer told me about the interviewer's form that they have to fill out. She said they circle the options of either "Do Not Accept", "Highly Recommend" or something to the effect of "Adequate". Heck, I might have gotten that wrong. In any case, I'm sure they go into more detail than that, but she didn't get to see much.

Oh, and from what I remember at the orientation, they said ~500 people will get interviewed and ~200 will get acceptances. So, the 24/150 figure is really misleading because they DO go back through the files they set aside for later.

that 5-7 week line that their office keeps feeding us is not true!!! when i called davis a couple weeks ago (about 10 weeks post-interview) i was told that my file hadn't even been reviewed once since my interview! now it's been twelve and a half weeks and i still haven't heard a thing.

just multiply that number by 3. so they really mean 15-21 weeks. that means they're still on schedule! 😉

jlee, i had a hunch you'd be the first one to reply to my post!

just out of curiousity, how long have others been waiting to hear back post-interview?

8 going on 9 weeks for me.

I know someone who got into Davis in July.

It was me-- July 2000.

It was just as slow and frustrating four years ago as it is now... just try to find other things to keep you occupied. Keep in mind that there are only a couple dedicated people in the admissions office trying to keep thousands of salivating pre-meds satisfied. The process of choosing a medical school class is not easy, as you might guess.

Good luck and happy waiting! (read a book or something!)

MC

And me--July 2003. It can, and does happen. Good luck!

well the only situation this would work is when you have that acceptance and you tell the school that you will attend to that school on the May deadline, but still on the waitlist to Davis.

Now if you get off the waitlist and Davis decides to accept you around July-ish then you can tell your other school bye bye.

This is pretty common for people who are waiting on a top choice while they have an acceptance elsewhere.

You can turn down a school and accept another one up until you matriculate. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you can only be holding *one* spot in addition to being on a waitlist.

I was already to move down to SoCal to go to another med school when I heard about my acceptance to Davis. All I did was tell the other school I wasn't going and everything was fine.

Hi All-

it would be an awesome bday present if i got the big letter today.

Wzup everybody,

Got the big envelope today after a long day of work! The first acceptance has to be the best! After I interviewed (early nov., btw. [6-8 weeks my a**]) UCD became my top choice. Hope to see some of you guys in september!

Thanks for all the help and support.

Congrats ehd!! You must feel really good. I hope to see you next fall if I get some good news in the coming months!

Man, reading this thread takes me back! Just to let you all know, I was accepted even later than UCSB. I had to wait until mid-August to find out....so there's always hope.
I was actually told that I was on the bottom half of the waitlist, I'm not really sure how I got in. But I did write a bunch of letters and even sent in another letter of rec. I'm not sure if the helped, but they couldn't of hurt.
