Okay, now that I've gotten put on the waitlist as an out-of-state resident, I've been thinking. Do you all know of or have any experience writing letter of interests? It's been a topic on here lately and I didn't even know people do that. Would KU think that is pushy or should I do it? Any insight into this-maybe from some current Jaydocs? I guess I just didn't know that this was something people did. Thanks for any words of wisdom you may have!

I would definitely consider writing them letters of interest....anything that shows KU that you are very interested in attending could only help your chances. That being said, I think you should be wise in choosing when and what to write, meaning that you should avoid being pesky by writing them twice a week. ALso, I suggest you update your application by sending them a nice list of things you have accomplished since you turned in your app....once again, the quality vs. quantity approach works here as well. Feel free to PM me any drafts you have and I'll letcha know what I think 👍

I got the letter today that I was put in a "hold" status until Mid-March. Hope the rest of you receive better news. Good luck and hopefully I'll be able to join the rest of you Jayhawks in March.

it's official. i am now a future jaydoc! i'm actually in LA right now visiting my brother, but earlier today we were having lunch in a restaurant when i got a call from my dad--he told me a letter had arrived from KU. i told him to go ahead and open it and he read the letter to me over the phone. sure enough it was an acceptance! my brother and i proceeded to cork open a bottle of wine to celebrate. thank god i can finally relax and enjoy my last few months of freedom. i will see all of you current and future jaydocs next year! 😀

actually i did go a little overboard on the wine; i ended up passing out at 6pm (western time) 😳 . also, i was a little disappointed with orange county--i was expecting all sun and sandy beaches, but as of right now, it is a chilly 48 degrees with a rare rainfall. oh well. 🙂

medmonkey--from what i hear, there is a lot of movement on ku's waitlist come february. and since you are an instater with sufficient stats, you should be fine. good luck and let me know when you get in. 👍

Hmm, well my application was complete the first week of September. I got an interview shortly after, but had to postpone it until early December. I am out of state and my stats are so-so (3.5/28Q), but, well, I am also a legacy. I have excellent ECs/research experience, but I was surprised they gave me an interview so fast. Hopefully it will go well, cause I would definitely go to KU if accepted....

Thanksgiving sounds like the appropriate holiday for someone just admitted to medical school.

I will be thankful for the chance to interview and then maybe (fingers crossed) a very merry Christmas. But, Ill probly be on hold til around April Fools Day.

Have any of you heard when KU wants deposits? For EDP they just gave us a generic acceptance letter and told us to expect more "in a few weeks." But so far (it's been 2 months) haven't heard anything.

No news, no news, no news. I've been checking my email like every 10 minutes. I just need to get out of here and relax a bit - oh, but I'm at work. Damn. Now I know that I might have to wait until March to find out if I got in or not, but the fact that there is a letter waiting for me and I just can't open it b/c it is being held at the freakin' post office is driving me crazy! I'm guessing that the person who checks the admissions office email is not in today b/c they usually get back to me pretty quickly when I've had questions in the past. Man, waiting sucks. To top it off, I think I'm coming down with something cause my throat hurts. 🙁

yea they mentioned this to us too. we had to fill out a ridiculous computer proficiency survey that asked questions like "have you ever used email before?" i dont know any details either, but im hoping they do implement this requirement--it'll give me a great reason to force my parents into buying me a new computer!

LOL yea, we had the same survey. It was crazy... I can't imagine there are people out there who have been through undergrad who haven't had to learn to use a pp or acrobat viewer.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the specifics for the same reason as you... Wouldn't it be nice to get the requirements before christmas 😀 lol.

Not sure if you guys want to go this route but from what I understand, when you are in school, KU allows for a $2000 loan towards a new computer. Of course that doesn't beat having your parents give you one...

i was wondering about this too. my letter just says that they will send me an additional packet of information in february. i think they are trying to figure out how to charge us for the background check along with the required deposit.

Actually, I thought they said that they were initially thinking about requiring those for the 2005 entering class, but now were planning that for the 2006 entering class. I wouldn't mind getting a tablet PC myself!

Hi Khenon! I'm guessing that things are moving pretty slowly this week since they just sent out all those letters last week and I know that a few of the staff are already gone for the Thanksgiving holiday. Who knows for sure, but I bet things will probably start picking up again soon. I hope that you hear something good from them sometime soon!

My boyfriend didn't get an interview with KU until last February, was notified in March that he was on the wait list, and found out in June that he was accepted. Then he found out in August (right when classes started) that he was accepted at Drexel too.

Things will work out for you too! It completely sucks that you'll have to wait awhile, but I guarantee that you are not the only one! I'll be thinkin' of ya! Good luck!

number one advice is to relax! The interview process here at KU Med is super chill. During your interview day, you'll see that there is a lot of down time. I suggest you take time out and chat w/ your fellow applicants, that helped calm me down a little bit. For these next few days before your interview, I'd suggest just reading over your application/PS, and maybe thinking of some of the reasons why you're interested in KU. You'll be fine.
