i just called them this morning adn the lady said they sent out their decision letters last thursday. i know the adcom meets every third thursday to make their decisions adn from the other thread, i notice that people get their acceptance letter the third saturday or latest fourth monday. today is the fourth monday but i did not get anything in the mail. do they send out rejection letters on the same day they send out their acceptance letters? did any of you get your good news after the fourth monday. do bad news come after the fourth monday?

I have not heard from UIC yet. I live in south Florida so I will probably not hear until after Christmas, plus there are the delays that might be caused with the extra mail being sent out this time of year (letters to Santa, Christmas cards, etc.) I would just be patient and not worry about not getting a letter on the fourth Monday. I assume you are on the west coast, so it might take a little longer than others who may have heard earlier (like those who live in IL).

I don't think UIC rejects too many people post-interview and probably waitlists the majority of people they interview (those not accepted of course). Also, if I remember correctly, they e-mail people who are waitlisted or put on hold, so it might be a good sign not to have gotten that e-mail by now. Anyone else know anything? I'm getting a little anxious right now.

As long as you guys don't get the waitlist e-mail you're in. They are sent the same day letters get mailed. I would call them and ask when they will be mailing the letters out. If that day comes and you don't get the waitlist/hold-list e-mail in all likelihood you're in.

Some good news for you guys. Of those that interview, over 60% eventually get accepted.

Good luck.

The letters were sent out this past Thursday, and I did not get the waitlist e-mail. Now I'm waiting for word via mail. I hope you are right. I'm not going to be able to sleep until I hear something.

If anyone hears something today from UIC, please post it. Thanks.

I called UIC yesterday and talked to the guy that fields admissions questions and he said, "no decisions have been made on the december interviewees, you will most likely hear something towards the end of jan."

what's going on??
😕

I received UIC letter yesterday (Monday) and it was a thin envelope 🙁

I interviewed in mid-December, so all of you guys should be hearing from them sometime this week rather than in Jan, unless my app was so bad they decided to throw me out first.

Anyway, good luck you guys!

hey solidgold...did you get anything today 12/24? i just checked my mail and didn't get anything. i guess they have the decency to time the mailing so that the news don't ruin my christmas.

hey palm tree...im sorry to hear that you didn't get good news from uic. keep your head up...im sure you will get in some other school.

Hey calbears84, I did not get anything. Just some stupid credit card bill. Looks like we'll have to wait until Thursday. At least we have not gotten the waitlist e-mail yet, but it could just be because they won't send it out until after Christmas. Plus, whatever decision that has been made on our applications could go either way. Looks like I won't sleep well for the next two nights.

*fatmike*, I'm not sure why you were told that December interviewees would not hear until the end of January. Our group on Dec. 13th (Chicago campus) were told specifically by Dr. Girotti that we would hear around Christmas time.

I'm still waiting to hear from UIC as well. Haven't gotten the notorious 'hold email'... yet. I guess the postal service is working kind of slow considering the flood of holiday mail and all. I assume that since I live in IL, I'll hear from uic before you guys out in miami and cali. As soon as I hear something, I'll let you guys know so you can be on the lookout. Best wishes on your med school apps.

I did not receive anything today either. I am on vacation now, and will be away from my mail for a week or so. But depending on how things turn out for you guys oni thursday, I will call again and inquire about my status.

again, i am totally confused as to whether or not decisions have been made. whenever i have called the ad com office i have been transfered to the same man, the same person who told me on monday that decisions have NOT been made for december interviewees. just keep updating this thread with any ne w news. enjoy christmas!

still nothing in the mail 12/26. i called uic this morning but no one picked up...i think they are still on vacation.

now i really doubt if they sent out the decision letters last thursday. im getting mails that are postmarked 12/23!!! anyways...did you guys get anything....please keep me posted

Hey, I still did not get anything. I'm with you calbears84, I don't think they were sent out yet, and they probably have not even made any decisions yet. Kind of sucks because Dr. Girotti seemed very sincere when he said we would hear something this week...but there is still Friday and Sat. Anyone who hears anything, please post it here.

Ok, after not hearing anything today (Friday Dec. 27) I decided to call UIC for myself. I spoke to a woman in the admissions office and this is what she told me: "Yes, decisions have been made regarding December interviewees but most of the admissions staff is on vacation and it will take longer than usual for decisions to be mailed out." She said that everyone should hear something in the mail in early January because they have been slow processing the decisions because of the skeleton staff. She did say that some letters have been sent out, so some people have heard something.

Hey SolidGold & calbears84,

I just called UIC and talked with one of the admissions people. The conversation was somewhat helpful. She said that they sent out most, BUT NOT ALL,l of the decision letters for the late Nov. and December interviewees last week. When I asked her what day, she refused to answer. Based on previous threads, the adcom makes decisions on the third thursday and then send out letters on friday. So most of the letters were sent out dec. 20.

She also said that the remaining decision letters will be mailed out on Monday January 6. I suspect the whole college is on break until the first week of January so some of us will be waiting even longer for a decision.

When I asked whether my decision letter was sent out on Friday, the lady responded that such information is 'confidential'.
You guys may want to call and see if you can dig out any more info than I did.

So I guess I'm going to have to wait until that letter comes in. I thought that Dr. Girotti said that we should have a nice 'stocking stuffer' by x-mas. I'm just hoping my most desired x-mas present comes before the end of the year...

Bumping this up, and hoping we all get our decisions this week!

I ran across this while looking at the 2002-2003 acceptances thread. So it looks like a few lucky ones got decisions before x-mas.

I am one of those "lucky ones" that got an acceptance before Christmas. I interviewed Dec. 2nd and I live in Chicago.

They probably simply sent out as many decisions as they could and will finish what is left after the new year. I know this gives no indication of your likely decision letter, but thought I'd pass along the info.

BTW, a large envelope is good.

thanks for the info maestro. i noticed that the two people who got accepted before christmas are from the chicago area.

i don't mind the waiting. my only concern is that the spots for UIC chicago will be filled soon. when i interviewed at rockford, i was told by couple of M4s that chicago fills up mid jan.

anyways...there is nothing we can do but wait till jan 6th.

Anyone else heard from UIC besides the lucky ones? Its been a little quiet since the lucky ones have heard before Christmas. Has anyone gotten the waitlist e-mail yet?

So what about those of us that are interviewing late january. Are we just gonna get waitlisted?

X

The AdCom meets every third thursday of the month to review completed applications. If you are interviewing before 1/23/03, your application will be reviewed on that day and a decision regarding your application should be sent to you before february. If you are interviewing after 1/13/03, your application will be reviewed the next time AdCom meets...which is 2/20.

I called the school a week ago and was told that UIC does not have a waitlist until May. To my knowledge, applicants don't get put on the waitlist this early. Instead, they are sent a letter or email saying a decision has not been made regarding their applications. I also know that (heard this from the dean when i was interviewing at rockford) about 30-40 people got off the waitlist last year. That number, according to the dean, was considered a lot.

to answer X's question. No, you are not interviewing for a spot on the waitlist. like many of us who interviewed early, you are interviewing for one of the 536 (got this number from a M4 student who worked in the admission office) spots available for next year's class. good luck on your interview.

I interviewed at peoria for UIC on Dec. 3 and still haven't heard anything yet either. Is it really that hard to put a few pieces of paper in an evelope and put a stamp on it. Oh well, just really annoyed at the whole process.

calbears84, meastro, hear anything yet? I have not heard a peep and I'm getting a little tired of waiting to hear from these guys. Like Zerb1489 said, how hard can it be it send out our decisions, even with a skeleton staff.

The admissions office should be back at full staff starting on the 6th, so I'm guessing we should hear sometime next week, a whole 2 weeks later than we were supposed to hear something. I did not get the stocking stuffer that I was hoping for.

Also, has anyone gotten the "hold" e-mail yet, or know of anyone who has? I hope I'm wrong, but I was thinking that people accepted outright has already gotten their decisions and those put on "hold" are still waiting. Just a guess though, maybe I'm being a little pessimistic.

ive been following your guys' thread for a while now. hang in there, UIC is kind of slow but youll eventually hear some good news! good luck to all of you and if you have any questions about UIC dont hesitate to PM me. hang in there 🙂

Hey everyone, I interviewed December 11 and got the good news the week of the 19th!!

Hellll yeah, I'M IN!!!

Finally!

I'm from IL, but not the Chicago area.
peace

BUMP,
hey guys,
I've yet to get any notification by snail mail or a waitlist email. However, it is Jan. 6 so all of us late Nov. -Dec. interviewees should be hearing something in the next few days. (assuming of course, UIC has got their act together and can get enough people to do the oh so difficult job of stuffing letters into envelopes) 🙄
I thought it would be a good idea to bring this thread up to date in case anyone else who has yet to contribute to this thread gets anything in the next few days.

So once anyone hears anything, good or bad, please post!

hi zerb! i am actually from ca and i will be interviewing at the peorial campus on the 16th of jan. i still haven't found a place to stay...i was wondering if you could recommend somewhere or if anyone could that i could stay at pretty close to the campus and reasonable if possible. i would reallyappreciate any help that i can get!!!

I just called UIC and spoke with a female in the admissions office and here's what she told me.
All decisions for late Nov.- December interviewees should be mailed (emailed and snail mailed) by the end of this week. She said that some of the decisions had already been mailed out in December. When I asked her what percentage of the total decisions were mailed out in December, she refused to answer.

Now, I really want to know the answer to my question. But, because I don't want to seem like an annoying pest, I'm not going to call them. However, if any of you are curious, maybe you can call the admissions office and find out the percentage of decisions that still need to be sent out.

I'm just freaked out now b/c maybe all the people who heard in December are the ones got what Dr. Girotti called the nice "holiday stuffer", whereas the people who have yet to hear anything (like me) are the ones that are going to get the x-mas equivalent of a big, lump of coal.

oh well, I guess we have no other choice but to wait. Good luck guys.

Just curious, does anyone have any idea if the Chicago campus is full, and if not, about how many seats are left? This question is directed more toward the people who JUST got accepted this round and may have inquired.

Any credible information would be appreciated!!

thanks.

by the end of this week?!?! didn't the lady say jan 6th? *sigh*

sorry i am posting again but is anyone familiar with the peoria campus??? i called the school and they really weren't so helpful about recommending somewhere for me to stay...they said they didn't know...does anyone have any experiences????

I got the same answer when I went to the Rockford campus. UIC doesnt have a hosting program or anything. It was the only school where I had to stay at a hotel.

By the end of the week, I don't think I'm going to care about the decision I get from UIC....just kidding. 🙂

I just thought of another reason why its taking them so long to get the decisions out. Since they interview at 3 campuses, three times a week (at least in Chicago), I'm gueessing that there are a lot of decisions to go through. At the Chicago campus, there were 16 of us. If they interview 16 people, 3 times a week for a month, thats 192 people just at the Chicago campus, without considering Peoria and Rockford.

I have not called them in a week, but it annoys me that meastro was refused to get an answer about the percentage that was sent out yet. Is that really top secret information?

Be sure to post the second any of you guys hear anything at all.

yea...rockford does not have a student host program. but i was fortunate enough to stay with a M4 student. what happened was...the lady at the school emailed all the M4 students my contact info. the email was sent two days before my interview but amazingly 3 students called and offered me a place to stay. maybe you can call the school and ask if they can do that for you. im sorry that i can't give better advice. good luck.

hey...nothing for me today...how bout you guys?

Just wanted to let people know that there are still spots for the Chicago campus. I got my site assignment today for Chicago.

I had also asked my pre-med advisor, who is very knowledgable about Chicago area schools. He said the Chicago campus historically fills up by February so as long as those of you that get acceptances this week or next send in your stuff right away, you should get a spot.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info on the chicago campus. Has anyone called UIC today to get any new info on early december interviewees decisions? please post if you do...i think i am going to call them later this afternoon, and i will post anything that i find out.

Well guys, I finally heard something from UIC. I got the "hold" e-mail today. Not too happy about it, but I really was expecting it since I'm out of state. Post when you guys hear something. Good luck!!!

What do you SDNers know about UIC and the types of students they're looking for? The only interview request I've received is at UIC in 10 days. I'm out of state and so I'm a little bit at a loss to explain why I got the interview.
