I will be interviewing there soon.
I decided not to stay with a student host, as I just think it would be too inconvenient to worry about things like sleeping bags and such.

Can anyone who is familiar with Norfolk suggest any hotels in the area?

Also, does anyone know how much a cab ride would cost from Norfolk International airport to campus. I'm not sure if I should rent a car.

im driving, i pricelined the radisson in norfolk for 70 bucks. its one of the ones they suggest i think.

I interviewed there last year and rented a car for about 40 bucks, i think that was cheaper then what several cabs would of cost. Oh yeah and map quest everything before you go.

Be sure to visit Interview Feedback. EVMS asks LOTS of ethical questions. Practice your answers in a mock interview or out loud in front of a mirror. EVMS was one of my "safety net" schools, but after interviewing there I was very impressed and it moved to one of my top three choices.

Hi there! I lived about 4 blocks from EVMS for 3 years, so I know the area well.

A very nice, inexpensive hotel is the Old Dominion Inn which is about 7 blocks away up Hampton Blvd. - you'd have to work hard to get lost between them. There are also the big hotels in the downtown norfolk area (Sheraton, Radisson, etc) which are very nice and close. The Clarion James Madison Norfolk is classy but affordable. I would not stay any farther away than these because Norfolk traffic tends to be really unpredictable with all of the Navy folks moving on odd schedules - you'd hate to be late! (The mapquest suggestion above is an excellent one).

I would definitely rent a car. The airport is about a 25 minute drive from EVMS/hotels, and by the time you pay just to and from you've spent more than a rental.

I hope this helps - feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

I went to EVMS and I stayed with a student when I interviewed. None of them who act as host would make you use a sleeping bag - they at least have a sofa and many have extra beds. I HIGHLY recommend staying with students. It gives you a chance to see folks out of the formal interview setting. I acted as a host in 2nd. 3rd and 4th year.

As far as questions about the interview - they will ask you an ethical question - usually something about abortion in a underage girl who doesnt want her parents to know or something about physician assisted suicide or alike.

PM if you have more EVMS questions. I loved going to school there and feel very well prepared as an intern now.
