I'm trying to get my main paper from my PhD into Circ Res and it's a freaking nightmare. At the moment it's borderline, so it'll sail into the Circ Res graveyard that is Cardiovasc Research without a problem.

Just wondered if anyone else has been through this experience with this or another top tier journal?

This happens to everyone. My paper has been 3 mths in review, and the editor says due to "unforeseen circumstances" they'll take another few weeks. PhD sucks

is that after the initial submission or the revised submission?

if you don't get it into circ res, where are you going to try?

For my PI it took 9 months after initial submission to get his paper out. I have been trying to publish in the other AHA journal, ATVB, and it's a pain. If it doesn't go through, it's JBC for me. Still, circ research is a very good journal, so it's worth the trouble.
