sciences were not really my best subjects in school but i am very interested in dentistry and have started to shadow a local dentist and would really like to explore it more. so my question is, does anyone know someone has someone personally gotten a ba, bachelors in something other than a science related field and gotten into dental school? also if your not taking science related classes is there certain classes that you must take regardless of wheather you get a ba or bs?

thank you in advance for your time everyone.

I will graduate in May with a B.A. in History with minors in Biology and Chemistry. There are certain science pre-reqs that you have to take (Bio I-II, Inorganic I-II, Organic I-II, Organic Lab, Physics I-II, and some schools require a couple others). Remember that your dental school education will be very science based, so the more science classes you take in undergrad the better prepared you will be for some of the dental classes. However, you can definitely major in something other than the sciences and get in, you just have to get good grades and do well on the DAT, just like everybody else.

Good luck!

thanks a lot. i guess my best bet would be taking to an advisor at the cc im going to about it.

As a non science major myself, I can tell you that it won't hurt your chances for admission at all. However it might hurt u in dental school classes due to the lack of exposure

I have a degree in Music Education and Saxophone performance and am starting dental school this summer. It's all about the pre-reqs and getting some recommended classes on top my friend. It doesn't hurt you to have a non-science degree, but I think you better be able to prove that you can hang with science majors which is why you need some advanced bio/chem courses even tho your degree is non-science. Best wishes!!!

I have a classmate who got a BA in a non-science major. You can certainly get in without majoring in science, but you have to be ready to work once you get into school. Take as many science classes as you can to get strong science background before starting school. Most classes will assume you know nothing of the subject, but they move so rapidly and throw such a wealth of information at you that the courses really aren't meant for someone who knows nothing of the subject. My classmate didn't take all that many science classes (just what was required) and is really struggling (in danger of repeating 1st year)...

wow thanks for that information, i guess i have a lot more thinking to do
