I'm doing the Michigan premat program and am having a ball! It's awesome, I've learned my way around the building and I've already had to dissect a human. We're doing the musculoskeletal system so I'm memorizing my bootie off, but I'll be a lot more mellow in October than my colleagues. Anyone else out there having a similar experience?

Hi there,
I was one of the instructors for the prematriculation summer program at my medical school. The folks who participated in this program tended to rise to the top of the first years because they had deep exposure to the material that was presented.

We taught three courses, Gross Anatomy, Biochemistry and Immunology. This greatly lessened the load that these people had to deal with during the regular year. It also gave us, the instructors, great insight into the test making and grading programs. It is very difficult to write exam questions. When I taught graduate students, the exam questions were primarily essay. Writing multiple guess questions for medical students is totally different.

In addition to instruction, we were required to do evening study sessions with the students. They learned many of our tricks and strategies for getting through coursework. Again, they all tended to do very well once the regular sessions got underway.

I would advise anyone who gets a chance, to take advantage of a prematriculation program. It is very differerent from the BS/MD program. The prematric programs give you a huge advantage in the fall and you will be off to a good start.

This was awesome news! I've had an excellent time and I think that I've developed some good study ideas. At least I'll know more Friday, we have a test!

Starting one late august, I'm kind of bummed I won't have a vacation, but it sounds like made the right choice, cuz im scared ****less and I'll take any help I can get.

It is a little sad giving up summertime, but it's been a good experience. I'm done tomorrow and Orientation for the real thing starts on Monday. I've been studying for hours tonight and I think it's bedtime. After all, these grades won't count. But it's a good test run of my study skills. Wish me luck everyone!
