Anyone that got in that didn't think they would? Care to give us all a little hope and share your stats?
Almost everyone. And then once you're in, there's imposter syndrome.
Probably just about everyone.
Here's the thread that I'm in.
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/successful-applicant-stats-c-o-2015.776924/
This year's cycle is my first try applying (to 4 schools). My GPA is mediocre, and I feel like I'm missing critical things, so I will be incredibly surprised if I somehow manage to get an acceptance from any of them this time. I'm hoping to just get interview offers even!
I remember that!!! 🙂 It's one of the things from this forum that are forever etched in my brain.
I think it was memorable because I'd seen you post previously talking about how you didn't think you were likely to get in because your GPA was like 2.9 or something because of a not-so-great start to college. And I remember being so surprised (and happy for you) when, on your third try, you applied to a bunch of schools and the only one that took you ended up being the only one you wanted anyways! So to heck with those other schools and their rejections 😀
You have been around a while, huh?
Do you remember LVT2DVM? She was our "seventh time's the charm" girl. Makes three seem like cake.
Yeah, I've been coming here since 2009 or so. I used to post but for reasons I forget I stopped posting and just lurked. Maybe it was because I decided not to pursue being a vet but it could have been anything. What I do know is, this forum is very entertaining to me because I am interested in just about anything vets (or anybody involved with the field) say about their professional/school lives. And this forum is full of that, so I think that's why I've stuck around.
But after a couple years of just lurking it occurred to me that, if I like the aforementioned kind of people so much, maybe I should interact with them more. So, I've been trying to do just that. I've started talking to some vet students on Tumblr and I made a new account here, so I could start posting here again. Sometimes it's a little awkward when I don't know exactly what to say (how do you tell a vet student that you admire vet students but have no intentions of becoming one, without looking like you're a weirdo? lol) but overall it's been a blast 😀
That name sounds vaguely familiar but I don't remember her. I do remember DVMDream from back then, though. This is unrelated but I loved (her?) name because it had dream in it but I was a little sad that she was a pre-vet at the time. I wanted her to have DVM after her real name to go with the DVM in her screen name and since she hadn't yet been accepted to veterinary school, that happening wasn't assured. Why that all mattered to me, I'll never know, but I was super happy when I saw her status had changed to veterinary student because that meant she was on the road to getting those letters.
And then of course I was happy just like I am for anybody who gets into vet school. Tis an awesome achievement no matter what ^_^
any regrets? 😉I got in on my 4th try. Almost didn't apply the last time because I was so sure I wasn't going to get in. So I made other career plans. And the same week I got my acceptance letter I was hired by a national company for $10,000 more than I asked for. And I turned it down to go to vet school.

Somehow, no.Did any of your prereqs expire?
😀
Aww, thanks.![]()
It's not too weird. I think we can handle it.
@DVMDream is gonna change her name to DVMyeahbitches after she graduates.
@dyachei if this doesn't violate TOS... I am requesting this name change. 🙂
So many people just kinda wander away and never come back. Others are just lazy. Haha.

She's posted more recently than that, but it's still been about 4 years. If tagging her doesn't get her back in here, there's probably not much to do.
@DVMDream dooo eeeeettt.
I got in on my second try, so hardly the longest wait here. But I was a wait list survivor and when I got wait listed the second year, there was a definite meltdown along the lines of, "I DID EVERYTHING YOU WANTED ME TO!! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT OF ME?!?"
It was mostly down to getting more experience and polishing my interview skills. I was only applying to one school and my academics were solid, so that wasn't an issue.Hi! If you don't mind me asking, what did you do to change your application the second time around? So you got off a wait list the second time around I'm guessing? If so, congrats!

...imposter syndrome doesn't go away after you graduate unfortunately.
Fyi if you apply and get rejected, you can ask the school for a file review. Most of them do it, they'll go through your file and tell you where you were lacking, and so you know what to focus on improving.
True. Also imposter syndrome doesn't go away after you graduate unfortunately.
