A week ago I got an email from Drexel with an interview invite. On the scheduler, all slots for Jan, Feb, and March were all taken. The earliest date I could find was April 2. I was wondering if interviews at that time are still for the class or for the waitlist. I am already accepted at a DO school but I just want to see if an MD school will give me any acceptance offers as well. In other words, is there still a chance?

Each and every school certainly varies, but interviews in April are not always for waitlist spots. I, too, have several friends who interviewed very late in the season who are MS1s now. I seem to get the impression here on SDN if you haven't interviewed by December, you should start looking at next year. I know for a fact at South Alabama (like I said, every school varies) as of last week, they were just at the half way point for interviews. Now they might be an exception but you should still have hope for Drexel.

I would take the April date and then call every now and then to see if any earlier slots have opened up. If they don't, there's still always a chance for you in April! :luck:

"By March 30 of the matriculation year, each school have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services." AAMC

It sounds like you will be interviewing for a waitlist spot unless someone turns down their acceptance. That does not mean that you can't possibly end up at the school.

I know several people who interviewed at Stanford in April and got accepted (no waitlist).

Most schools follow this guideline, but not all do (my school, for one, tends to ignore it). The only way to know for sure how many seats in the class will be offered by the time you interview is to ask the school (or sometimes its students)

interviewing for wait list spots is mostly an SDN myth that has never been really substantiated by anyone. Every school is different so feel free to ask. I would still go, even if you are more likely to get waitlisted because it's later in the season. You have to be in it to win it! Getting waitlisted is better than nothing at all - and you never know you might not be waitlisted at all!

I was offered an interview at Medical College of Wisconsin which specifically said that I was interviewing for a waitlist spot, period.

I wouldn't worry too much about it though, remember, most schools offer at least TWICE their spots by the time the interview season is over. Even if Drexel has filled the equivalent of one class's worth, they will most probably be offering another class equivalent at least.

Bumping up as there may be SDN members who are wondering about their chances heading into their April interviews. I just had mine at Drexel last Thursday.
