Hi guys!

I know the admissions cycle has rolled in! I know many of you are doing your research about which schools you want to apply to. I'm a first-year here at NSUOCO, and I would be more than happy to answer any questions about the admissions process, the school itself, etc.!

hey i have many questions. I just got an interview for September 17th. what does it mean, am i close to acceptance or am i on the borderline. do they accept most people they interview. What questions did you get for your interview? and how did you dress if you are a female. I am nervous because this is my first choice.

P.s How do you like your first year. I hear negative things about Nova bc of the whole thing if you fail one class then they kick you out. \

I applied there mostly because I grew up in OK. Did you apply to any other schools? What specifically made you choose NSUOCO over other schools? What are the facilities like at the school? Thanks

Hi eyer21,

I hope I didn't cause any confusion, but I was referring to the optometry school in Oklahoma. I didn't realize that Florida's school is also abbreviated NSU. I wouldn't know much about the school in FL, but I can answer the other questions you asked!

Congratulations on getting an interview! Getting an interview does mean that the school is considering you as a student for their program. However, it doesn't mean that you're guaranteed a spot. According to opted.org's 2009 stats, there were 746 applicants and 106 were enrolled that year.

I wouldn't know what kind of questions you would get if you interviewed in FL, but I'm sure you'll be asked why you want to become an optometrist, some behavioral questions, and maybe some questions about your academics.

For my interview, I wore some black pinstripe pants with a white button-up shirt and closed-toe low heels. Just some basic rules to keep in mind are: no exposed cleavage, closed-toe heels or dressy flats, minimal/natural makeup (meaning, no neon colored eyeshadow or hot pink lipgloss), skirts should be at the knee or below, and neutral colors (white, black, beige, grey) work best.

My first year is going well so far, although I will say there was more work than I expected! I really like all my classmates and my professors seem to really care about their students' education.

Good luck with interviews!

Hi SokClari,

I also grew up in OK! It's kinda surprising to see someone from OK on here, don't see too much of those 😛

I applied to NSUOCO, UHCO (Houston), and UIWSO (San Antonio). I did take a tour of the NSUOCO campus when I was a freshman in college, and I made that my first choice since I liked the campus and the caring nature of the administration/staff. UHCO and UIWSO were pretty much back-up schools, although I did think the UHCO campus was nicer than NSUOCO's. I first got accepted to NSUOCO, so I cancelled my interviews with both UHCO and UIWSO.

I ultimately chose NSUOCO because I would be closer to home if I ever wanted to visit. Furthermore, who doesn't love in-state tuition rates 😀? I also liked that the class size was small, so you could know everybody in your class and the professors would have close relationships with you.

The campus IS quite small though. I came from OU, so it was a little bit new to me to be in a small town/small campus. You have one side of the campus that is for classrooms, the basement is for labs and a student lounge, one side is for the administrative area, and one side is for the clinic. I haven't been to the clinic that much, but I can say that they use up-to-date equipment and have several examination rooms.

I hope I was able to help answer your questions! Feel free to ask more questions!

I know I already asked this question in another thread but with the title being so off from my question I decided to repost under a more related thread.

I was hoping someone could tell me a little about how their interview at NSUOCO went. Not that many people apply there so its hard to find any information about that school. Thanks in advance!

I have an upcoming interview at NSUOCO. What kind of questions should I expect? Any other advice? Thanks!

It was a lot more relaxed than I expected. Pretty much they asked me questions from my application (scores, grades, ex curric activities, volunteer work, etc). If you scored low in something (OAT or school) be able to answer why. Do you do group studying, whats the best studying environment for you, whats something your friends might say about you, list a weakness about yourself, how are you planning to pay for school, future plans like where you see yourself in 10 or 20 yrs. . etc (pretty much the same generic interview questions).
You will also have to write a timed essay. Dont freak out about it. From a pile of maybe 15 you pick 2 and then pick 1 that you want to write about. Theyre pretty easy questions, about yourself. They lady told me not to worry about it. She said it was to see your writing skills because some students cant write without spell check and all the other computer proofreading tools (punctuation and spelling).
The people there were very nice and friendly!

Thanks for your help lilxkgrli! Hopefully all goes well and we'll both be starting in the fall!

Hello there! I am applying to NSUOCO this fall. I haven't taken the OAT yet, but have accrued several volunteer hours at eye clinics and in the community (over 500hrs), student government, will have all the pre-reqs and working at an eye clinic. I wont have my bachelors but will have 110+ hours by the spring semester. Any advice? Any chance that I will get in?
