The confirmation email didn't provide much information.

1. Do you walk from the hotel to the hospital the night before and the interview day? Or do they pick you up?

2. How casual is the night before thing? Do they feed you?

3. About what time does the interview day end?

Thanks.

great interview, even if the structure seems unusual at first.

1. Walking distance 5-10 minutes. I walked the night before, drove in the morning because it was cold/raining, and they validate parking. Took longer to drive and park than it did to walk. Hotel is a nice place - old unique building renovated with sweet rooms, flat screen tvs, internet, etc.

2. Very casual. I think I wore khakis and a sweater, but would have been more comfortable in jeans. Both of the chief residents were in jeans - very informal. They had some finger food and sandwiches, cookies, etc. Enough to make a decent meal. Lasted around 2 hours to meet and greet, have an overview of the program, and tour of the hospital. Again - informal, friendly, laidback. Don't stress, but definitely don't skip it. This is where you learn a bulk about the program.

3. End of the day is variable in a sense. I think I had 5 or 6 interviews of 20 minutes each. Sounds worse than it is, and the interviewers (for the most part) were pleasant. Preceded by a brief introduction by the chair and the PD. After the interviews a good number of residents showed up to take us out to lunch (they do provide transportation, but you can choose to drive yourself and help out also). This lunch was well attended by the residents, and was at a very nice sushi/steakhouse. Interview suits did not look too far out of place there. Varied menu and everything tasted great. I got the impression that the lunch, while not a formal interview, was used by the residents to get a better feel for the applicants, and might have been used in evaluations (I think I remember a chief telling me this - someone correct me if I am wrong). We all had a good time there and finished up around 3-3:30, but I could have stayed longer. 🙂

sorry, i seem to have forgotten that i really like this program and therefore must change my answer to:

1. the hotel is a dump and they make you walk on glass to get to the hospital!

2. very informal. show up naked and screaming about how the republicans are working with the NSA to secure oil for aliens.

3. it ends after 5 hours of grueling abusive interviews!

cancel while you still can!! 😀

Thanks for the quick reply.

3-3:30 is not good as the last flight out for me is at 4:30 with a shuttle picking me up at the hotel at 3:00. 👎

we lingered at lunch for quite a while. i don't think it would be a problem if you had to leave a little early (2:30 is plenty of time to get back to the hotel and change if necessary). i don't remember for certain, but i think someone did leave before we ordered dessert for this very reason, and i think a resident left earlier than the rest also. if you have a flight, you have a flight. the residents were all friendly and i can't see any of them holding that against you. explain it before you leave and see if anyone can agree to leave the lunch by 2:30. if they stay on schedule with the interviews and get to the restaurant without too much delay, lunch will probably be winding down by then anyway. we might have ended earlier. now that i think about it, i think i went back to the hotel and took care of some things before i got on the road, so my times are off a bit.
