I have been calling up offices and havent been getting any positive response, what to do? I live in NY and if anyone has had a DO doctor that they have shadowed, please let me know.
I can get letters easily from MD's I work with, but that is not helpful:(

Use iLearn. http://cf.osteopathic.org/iLearn/home.cfm There are a ton of DOs in the NYC area. I've shadowed a few of them.

Here's what you do: Shoot them a polite email introducing yourself, and tell them you want to get more experience to osteopathic medicine because you want to be a DO. Give it a week or so and you'll hear back from a bunch of them. If that fails, shoot me a PM.

Good luck.

Omg thank you.. I didnot know there was a place where you could find mentors. I have been calling up offices:eek: haha. Thanks a ton. I will compose a nice letter and hopefully get reply from someone. I think you should make list this as an official threads-must read. It will help many people who are looking to shadow a DO. Thanks:)

I found this page on the AACOM website: http://www.aacom.org/InfoFor/applicants/becoming/Pages/ShadowaDO.aspx

I found a teaching hospital with strong ties to the school I want to attend and then what I did was email the residency coordinator. I introduced myself and mentioned that I was very interested in pursuing osteopathic medicine and was looking for shadowing opportunities. She got back to me in less than an hour asking what my availability was. Needless to say, I think I lucked out with this route. I haven't seen other posts with people doing this but I would recommend trying it. The worst they can say is no, right?
