Anyone know anybody with AA/TS 23+ this year?

There are a lot fewer people with 23 or above this year compare to last year, maybe because of the increased difficulty of DAT.

Just for this year, I know Shunwei got like a TS of 25 or something. Sacjumpman also destroyed the test as well as smarterray.

Yeah, I managed a TS 25 and AA 23 somehow. If you have any questions about how I studied or whatever, feel free.

grat scores, i just checked out ur profile on predents and saw that u submitted ur application on july 13. may i ask when u got ur interview invites? coz i submitted my appl in the last week of july and no bites yet. my dat isnt as strong as urs 19/20/21, but my gpa is comparable: 3.83

I'd think otherwise. A 3.8 is definitely evidence of hardwork for a long time...I think thats harder than doing well on the DAT, which for the most part, required 2-3 months of intense studying as opposed to years of undergrads.

Truthfully, I'd rather take the points on my DAT and stack them onto my GPA... like trying to make myseld a 3.6 with 21. I think I probably will have better odds that way.

I have to disagree Jiga, I would take points off my gpa and add them to my DAT scores. If you got a 27 TS and AA and a 3.0 Im sure you would still get a bunch of acceptances. Of course it depends on what schools you are applying too. Anyways you killed the DAT...

Damn, you are like the perfect applicant that I would like to be. Haha. I mean look at you, you've gotten a bunch of interviews already! I've only gotten 3 so far, although this probably have something to do with me taking the DAT on August.

I think having a high GPA shows your work ethics and dedication, whereas having a high DAT just shows that 1. you are good at standardize tests or 2. you have the potential, but never tried hard enough. All in all, I think being a dentist would probably require intense dedication to patients, and therefore I think that GPA would be the more important factor.

But damn, your combination of GPA and DAT are lethal...one of the best all around applicants I've seen so far. 👍

The grass is always greener isn't it. I was looking at your predents profile, where do you want to go to school? I am jealous of your interview at Buffalo. What are your deciding factors on where you would like to go to school? Cost, location, quality of education,...etc?

Mostly just location and cost, but location would be a greater determining factor. I would be very happy if I receive more interviews from the west coast schools, but seems like this wont be the case. My first choices are schools in cali, like UoP, UCSF etc but I heard UoP is extremely difficult to get into without connections. I actually had a friend who applied last year with a 3.6/24 and didnt even get an invite from UoP so I am kinda preparing for the worst.

Honestly though, ask me this question a year or 2 ago and I would just be happy to get into ANY dental school! (I had like a 2.9 after sophomore year)

Don't sweat the west coast ones, yet. Most haven't started interviewing. I'm sure you know this, but thought I'd remind you you're in good shape.

I was invited by Indiana (my home state) Sept 10th and Penn September 4th or 5th; still waiting to hear from Maryland and Colorado, though I did get emails to confirm that they received my application.

Someone else asked how I studied:
I think what helped me the most was the fact that I took ALL of my prereqs. over the past school year, including two summers. Because I was studying for these courses, I didn't really have to think about too much "extra" studying for the DAT during the school year. I did start hitting practice tests and devoting time to DAT study about a month and a half or so before taking the DAT in July. Cramming all the prereqs (well, minus biochem) into one year is the way to go!

I got 23's for both TS and AA. I can't remember the percentile for TS, but it was 98.1% for AA. Is this higher than it has been in previous years?

My friend told me that when he took the DAT last year, AA of 24 was a 99.5 percentile. I got the same on AA this year and it showed up as 99.2. This probably has something to do with last year's insanely high DAT score. If you look at the posted DAT score on this forum for last year you will actually see a bunch of kids with AA of 24 or above, whereas this year there were only like 7 or so with AA of 23 or above.

Personally, I think the percentile might go up after this year because it seems to be that people are not doing as well this year as opposed to last year.

I am on the same boat. I got 23's for both TS and AA. the percentile for TS was 98.3. 😀 By the way, great score jiga! I knew you did very well but didn't know the exact score.

Haha, thanks a lot. You did pretty well too!!!!! Anyways, I knew performing well on the DAT was gonna be my only hope...since my GPA is below average. Had I gotten a higher GPA (3.6ish) I am pretty sure I wouldnt study as hard... 😛
