I really enjoyed my interview day with them, but have heard from many people it's "ranked" near the bottom for anesthesia. They almost never fill and have a hard time selling their program.

I would have to agree with a lot of the info that is posted in Vent's thread link. I interviewed there this year. I feel that the program is definitely a lot more stable than it was last year. I actually came away with a very good feeling about the program. I liked it better than WashU across town(a name isn't everything!). Dr. Cumonale (sp?) is awesome. Very down to earth. Same with Dr. Connors. Residents seemed to be a really tight-knit group that had no problem with helping each other out. I only applied and interviewed at midwest programs... I liked it well enough that it was in my top five.

I left the interview with a buddie of mine and we both said we loved the program and would rank it highly. This of course was our first interview...SLU starts in the middle of September!!!!!

I actually cancelled WashU after SLu....Meaning, I would much rather be in a hard working "but laid back" program.

I really loved the city and would have been more than happy to match there.

I do know their transitional year is really "cush", but after that you get hammered.

I also got the feeling that they were worked pretty hard. The residents actually stated that they averaged 70 hr/wk, unlike the defacto 60-65 you here at other programs. Transitional yr is definitely cush.

What about the PGY-1 cat. year, is it as cush as the TY year, anyone know.....and thanx for the above info....it's been helpful.

If I'm not mistaken, the PGY-1 yr of the catigorical track is the transitional yr.

The categorical PGY-1 year and the transitional year are not the same.

The transitional year has more elective months and a month of practice management classes thrown in the mix to teach you the "business of anesthesiology/medicine." The categorical clinical base year has less electives and no month of practive managment classes.

Thats right. I do remember them talking about the practice management elective.

Details of those two interview months are starting to fade away... unlike my credit card bills from interviewing.
