My fiance and I were seperated during the match (fortunately only two hours apart). He would like to transfer to my city next year (WITHOUT BURNIN BRIDGES at his hospital). I have heard that spouses have priority at the same institution/university affliation...is this true? Does anyone have any ideas/comments/advice concerning transferring from a program? I would appreciate ANYTHING!!!😳

Depends on the institution.

It is generally true that when someone wants to transfer or change programs, more lee-way is given to those who have a "real" reason, like spouse in another city.

At any rate, the question you raise has been asked multiple times. The conventional wisdom is to be honest with your current PD (as he/she may very well need to write you an LOR), and don't expect not to have to repeat any time done elsewhere. After all, programs can only offer you positions in years in which they have open positions. Lateral transfers are rare unless the program you are transferring to has had someone quit, die or be fired in the same year.

At any rate, while the program may be sensitive to your issues, it is not necessarily true they will automatically give "priority" rto your husband over someone else as equally or more qualified.

I would speak with the program director of your husband's specialty at your institution. These things have been known to happen. Good Luck.
