Hey guys,
here's my unfortunate situation. Former RUSM grad (carib school graduate in 2012). Boards 220, 234, and passed step 3 (result 1 week ago). I am currently doing a preliminary year in NY. Unfortunately, I was unable to match for a categorical PGY-I position despite having 8 interviews, which was alone devastating. Now I'm trying to scramble into any open IM positions. There have been 4 programs that I have found that had PGY2 positions open up since March 11 that I know of, but interviewed at 2 of them on phone/person, unfortunately missed out.

so my question is this: how often do PGY2 positions open up between now through June? I hear PGY1s certainly open up in May/June b/c of FMGs having Visa stuff (and to be honest, im so desperate, I'll do two PGY1 years in a row at this point). There isn't any clear cut data on this, and I've heard varying things such as "PGY2 positions are more readily available between November-February, cold after March." and also, "PGY2 positions open up between April to July."

I mean, i can't find actual numbers and its hard b/c on the one hand, i tried counting last yr's SDN posts on open PGY2 IM positions, but then i felt it wasn't accurate b/c residency programs may advertise on different sites like findaresident or residentswap, and not SDN. Also, can't find any official #s from NRMP on this. A lot of what I hear seems to be anecdotal hearsay kind of stuff. Plus, i heard a good # of programs that get PGY2 IM positions don't even like advertising, they prefer filling the positions internally first and then through contacts/connections b/c of a potential bad rep from having to advertise a PGY2 position?

anyways, if someone can help me out with this, that would be great. Its like so hard to go to work now b/c of what is going on. Everyday feels like I just found out I have cancer, and it really stinks...

thanks.
