Background: 28 first time and 26 second time. about 3.8ish gpa, but want to raise to compensate for mcat?

Hi, I got a 26 on april mcat so wanted to do a post bac to raise my gpa and do better on mcat. is it too late to apply. they told me i could try, anyone know?

more importantly, if I am financially disadvantaged, does that make me able to apply to ucla or ucsf post bac? i am indian btw, so i don't know if i am a minority or not.

if i cannot apply to uc, is scripps the only other place.

does it matter if you go to georgetown, harvard, scripps.....

anyone know of a website on schools?

sorry for the questions, i am so confused...

KK82. Calm down. You will be able to find most of your answers here, and most people on the forum will be happy to help you.

First of all, you should read the FAQ section at the very beginning of the forum. The next place to visit would be the AAMC website, where they list quite a few schools that have post-bacc programs. After that, come back to the forum and find more specific information regarding programs for financially-disadvantaged students; there are many many schools for that but I think you should read the basic information first, regarding what exactly a post-bacc is and what a masters is, before you get to that.

Phil_Anthropist (who is now a moderator) is our resident post-bacc know-it-all. I would PM him with your questions. I know for Georgetown's program, it is too late to apply for this year, and that they also require at least a 27 on the MCAT.

It is important fo ryou to know that there are two different types of post-baccs: the first is the traditional meaning of post-bacc, where you take the medical pre-reqs, and the second is a Masters degree (or certificate program) where you take upperdivision science classes and , in some cases, medical school courses. Georgetown is the latter type, and I believe Scripps is the former. If you have already taken the pre-reqs for medical school, then there is not much point to taking them again, and so you would want to look into one of the Masters programs.

As for the Indian thing, unless you mean Native American (which I don't think you do), I'm pretty sure you're not considered a minority.
