Wow, I feel so terrible right now.
I'm a TX resident so I applied through both AMCAS and TMDSAS. I added Georgetown, GWU, Temple, Drexel and Jefferson just because it's "the school that everyone applies to." Now I really see no point in completing them since the secondaries are so expensive and so many people are applying there. Plus, I probably have a better chance at my state schools than I do there.

I feel like just not completing some of the secondaries, especially when Georgetown has a 5000 character limit and Temple no character limit. At the same time, I feel pathetic even applying there just for the sake of applying then wasting my money...

Anyone on the same boat? I already feel like not doing Georgetown and Temple. I don't know much about that school and don't know anyone who goes to that school. (sigh)

I wouldn't feel bad about it. I'm not doing the secondary for GWU (reassessed the cost of living and cost of the school - just too much), U South Carolina (only 10% OOS), or maybe not even UK (someone on here suggested I take it off my list in the first place but I had already submitted my primary). So, I'm still doing 13/16 of mine - but saving ~$300 in that process is okay by me. It's certainly not like the schools are gonna say 'oh woe are we, only 70% of the ppl that applied here are complete!' - less for them to read over!!

don't worry about it. last year I didn't fill out 2 of my secondaries. one because i was just tired of filling out secondaries and theirs was really long and another because they gave me 2 weeks to do it and their tuition for out of state was obscenely high.

why waste more money on secondaries? yes we all would like to apply to some schools just to see if we could get in, but really it's just a waste of you or your parents money

don't feel too bad, last year i submitted 20 primaries, but only ended up finishing 15 secondaries and let the other 5 go. they were schools that i either figured i truly had no chance at and didn't want to waste the money (ie Emory, Columbia) or one of those schools that everyone applies to, but I knew I wouldn't really want to go there/live there (ie Albany, RFU.) Trust your gut. If you think you have a reasonable chance at a TX school (like, your stats are on par with accepted students) and you would prefer TX to anywhere else, then don't worry about the other schools. And if you do want to apply to non-TX schools, then pick ones you like, not the ones that everyone applies to.

good luck 🙂

I think it's one of the pre-med compulsions that makes us always fill out the maximum number of characters. You don't have to. If you're thinking too hard for something to day - it means you don't have anything to say and so don't say it. It's a maximum of 5000 chars - writing to the point 2000 chars will not hurt you. And if its concise and well written it'll do you a lot more good than 4500 characters of ramblings that they already know from your work/activities and personal statement.
