My AMCAS was processed as of 7/26 (submitted on 6/15, but transcript issue lead to significant delay). Haven't heard from NYU and when I spoke to admissions they said I would receive an email either asking for me to fill out secondary or telling me not to at this time. Have others received email telling them NYU not interested and, if so, what were your stats?

My app was just processed like 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard from NYU either. I got a 30 and have a 3.3.

I got screened out 🙁

Edit: Oh yeah my stats: GPA 2.95, MCAT 40.

just got an email today stating that should my secondary status change NYU will let me know....and give me a secondary....argh!!!!

Pumpkin - How about I submitted on the same day as you and got processed the same day..I also had a transcript problem but it was resolved in a few days but then they redid my entire course work. But back to the subject at hand -- I haven't received any info from NYU so I'm hoping that is a good thing so far.

i cant believe u got screened out with those stats. obviously they must screen with gpa and mcat separately, instead of one formula

Yeah, but I was expecting to get screened out by a couple schools so it's not a huge surprise to me. I've gotten past Pitt's screen, for example, so I guess that's a good sign that not all schools do a hard numerical screen.

I'm just really waiting on two more secondaries, Drexel and Case - I've heard Case screens based on GPA but I've also heard that they'll look at both GPA and MCAT together so we'll see. I don't know anything about how Drexel screens but I'm an in-state applicant so I'm optimistic.

There's several more schools besides those two I haven't heard from yet, but I won't be too depressed if I get screened from them. I was aiming to fill out at least 20 secondaries and if Drexel and/or Case comes through I'll hit that number.

"4. I?ve applied through AMCAS. When will I receive my secondary application?
As soon as we receive your verified application from AMCAS, we will send you the secondary application. All applicants receive a secondary. Please contact us if you feel that your secondary application has not reached you in a timely manner." From the Drexel website, no screen.

Also,
"Does Drexel University College of Medicine require a personal statement in addition to the AMCAS essay?
No. The AMCAS essay is all that we require. "
That's good news as well.

I just think they are a little behind.

Thanks for the info Nate

I didn't get an invite to fill it out either. They said they would contact me later, but I'm counting on rejection letter coming soon like Wake.

damn they are gettin' their screen on. my stats are in that ballpark, I hope I make it...

Wow, I don't understand NYU at all then 😱

that's kind of ridiculous if you ask me-

good luck at other schools! 🙂

they must not use a hard numbers screen because my stats were virtually identical (3.41 and 33) and i got one.

I got rejected with a 3.10 ug, 3.5 graduate and 37 mcat. Hope other schools aren't so harsh.

Wow...I can't believe people with such amazing stats (better than mine at least) weren't invited for a secondary. I received a secondary invite from NYU 2 weeks ago. My GPA is a 3.75. I think that's both science and cumulative and my mcat was a 25 O...retaking in ELEVEN days so I haven't even looked at the secondary. Hopefully, other schools will be as generous and give me a chance.

Is NYU a state school/ I got screened out with a 3.5 and a 30 MCAT...I have consideable clinical and research experience. That would explain why they are doing this...

"We received your application to NYU School of Medicine from AMCAS. At this time, we are not requesting you submit a secondary application. If this situation should change in the future, you will be notified."

I dunno, I took it to mean that I got screened out. Maybe they actually will invite me to fill out a secondary later, who knows?

hi cal could you post the link...just in case they "change" their mind 😳

My AMCAS was verified on 7/15, I recieved my NYU secondary invite on 7/26. My stats are 3.67 and 30 MCAT.

maybe they already decided to let you in 👍 with a 40 on the mcat? why the hell not?

thanks 😀 it looks easy nice

NYU places a tremendous amount of weight on the BCPM GPA.

i got one with 3.6 and 29Q. process is so weird...

I just called NYU (the guy was really mean!) and they said it usually takes a couple of weeks after your AMCAS is sent to process them.

I didn't receive one yet either--I was processed on 7/29.

Here are my stats:

Overall: 3.68
BCPM: 3.96
MCAT: 30M

I'll let ya'll know what happens--I want NYU too!

Thanks for all the responses...heard from them today and was screened out with a 3.6 and a 29Q. Wonder what their process is...

Easy. It involves everyones name on a slip of paper, a top hat, and some guy in a blindfold.

Hmmmmm... I got one within three days of my AMCAS being verified, I didn't realize people were being screened out.

My stats 3.5 ug, 4.0 post-bac, 33R; good ECs and clinical exp, but still...

They must be looking for a specific type of student or specific experiences??
Is it possible that they actually read our personal statement? 😱 That would be a shocker... I've been envisioning my "personal comments" used as a drink coaster while they contemplate my MCAT score.

any way to find out what their screening process is? it's new this year, right?

I got my secondary invite pretty soon after my processing. But I am NYU undergrad alumni... it's supposed to be easier for us. Sorry

My stats Overall:3.86, BCPM: 3.85, MCAT:33Q

The screening process is new this year, but last year NYU included the following line in its application instructions to give applicants a sense of their chances:

"Applicants with GPAs below 3.4 and MCAT scores below 10 in the science sections are urged to strengthen their academic credentials before applying to NYU."

Since discouraging unrealistic applications is out of vogue in the USNews-era, I'm guessing no one this year has seen that warning.

interesting, thank you

this explains nyu's really high acceptance rate, they screen out tons and tons of apps

No, that was probably because they were non-AMCAS last year, and thus less apps. (such as Columbia P&S also)

Nonetheless, it does appear they used a rigid screen this year.

do u think itll be substantially harder to get in this year, since theyll be receiving much more apps?

Hey sorry if this doens't make any sense but this is my first post ever. Anyways, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but since it's in the same state does anyone know if New York Medical College screens or do they send out secondaries to everyone that gives in a primary. And also is everyone submitting secondaries if they get them without a first screen?
Sorry again for the post if it is out of place.

I have no idea...I never understand statistics anyway; but, my guess is yes:
more apps=more strong apps=more competition for the slots

Unless you're a URM.
