Anyone quit the PhD and regret it?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I quit and went into experimental psych. I'm also working with my master's degree (doing freelance therapy and psych testing for a psychologist) this summer and doing really well. So far I don't regret it--what I regret is going for the APA-accredited program post-masters and not doing what I truly wanted from the get go.

Glad to hear that you're happy with your decision, Psychadelic. I don't think that I knew you had actually decided to take that step.

I know two people who quit during the 5 years in my program - no one close to me or in my cohort, but both had good reasons. Both seem reasonably happy now. I would imagine that some regret might set it for some people, but if there are compelling reasons to not finish then those might outweigh the regrets.

Also glad to hear that you are happy, psychadelic. It sounds like you landed in the right place - just took an initial detour 🙂

I know one person who quit an experimental program because they "****ing hated it" and switched to a counseling psych program, and are now happy 🙂

I also know another person who dropped out of a Ph.D. program due to health concerns, and she is now working with her masters. She is doing well and has a private practice.
