Hey Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone here is reapplying because they didn't get in last year? I am a reapplicant and am hoping to turn in all my stuff soon because I applied late last year. I have a pretty decent OAT score. 330 AA and 320 TS. I got a 360 in Orgo and a 350 in general Chem, a 320 in biology and a 360 in reading comp but my physics was a 290 and my quant reasoning was also a 290. I am thinking about retaking physics just because it is so important in optometry school. Right now I am taking a and p II because I need to and am getting a recommendation from my professor and I have also shadowed other optometrists who are giving me some more recommendations as well. As far as the application process, almost every school I have spoken too has said that I only have to fill out the demographics section and then submit what I have done in the meantime to improve myself? I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what else I should do as a reapplicant? I don't think I am going to take the OAT again though. If I go down in score, it will hurt me!
Any advice is helpful!!!!

your score seems really good to me... i dont see why you didn't get accepted... my friends got in with GPA = 2.6 and OAT AA=310 (3 around that area of scores)

what is your gpa?

Nice OAT scores 🙂 Is that your first try?

texasgal,

where did you apply and not get in with OAT scores that high?

Hey Drbizzaro,
Just Curious
which schools did your friends with these GPA/OAt scores applied to and got accepted?
Thanks!

I still can't believe you got rejected with 330 AA and 320 TS.
Was this just from one school or from several?
Those scores have to be good enough for most schools. From the 2004 statistics that I have printed out, several schools have AA averages around 310. Did you just apply to Berkeley or something?

well one, I applied pretty late and I did apply to alot of the schools. I ended up interviewing at NOVA but didn't get accepted. They only accept 50% out of state students and I didn't even interview till about april. Also, my GPA isn't so stellar. It's at 2.8 from the University of Texas at Austin. The good thing is, I graduated about 6 years ago and have been working ever since. I didn't have any optometry experience except shadowing a couple doctors here and there. I think that might have had something to do with it. I wasn't originally planning on going to optometry school but I just decided very recently and therefore had no time to build up my experience with working for an optometrist, etc. Since then, I have shadowed a few others and am taking a couple classes to prove that I can handle the optometry course load. I hope I really get in this year! My first choice is university of houston because it's a great school and it is in Houston, TX. It also has very reasonable tuition and is hard to get into because it is a state school and not private. We will see what happens! I can only hope for the best!
Good luck to everyone reapplying! Do you think that reapplicants have a better chance to get in than others?

oh that was the second time taking the oat but I took the first one the october before and got a 310 and then 4 months later, I took it in february not expecting to score much higher but I did and was happy!

Hey Texasgal,
I am a fellow Texans and also reapplying. My GPA and OAT scores arealmost exactly the same as yours, except my physics score is lower. So, I am thinking of retaking it. I have already started reapplying. This year I am just going to work at an optometry office to get experience and get my applications in earlier. I got one interview last year, but it was at the end of april and there were only about 10 spots left. So, not much of a chance for last year because I got my applications in late and didn't have any experience. But hopefully it willl go better this year for the both of us. Also, you should try to go to TOA in Feb in Austin. It was great fun last year and it really pumped me up about the profession. I think I am going to try and make it again this year. Good Luck!

Texasgal, I was just curious - since you graduated six years ago how old are you now? I was wondering because I graduated 5 years ago myself and I'm 29 now.

Hi RLK,

I am 29 also now! So you already applied? I am still working on mine! Hopefully reapps have a better chance. That is what I heard!
Good Luck to you!

[Hi drbizarro,
I have the same gpa and oat scores as your friends and was wondering if you can tell me where they were accepted to. I was also worried about my low GPA since everyone is getting in with a 3.3+, please let me know thanks...

If yu have 3.3 GPA, you should be pretty competitive man.
