So im working on my take home final and our professor said "you can consult anyone not enrolled in this class currently"
so if any of you can help i would be appreciative, i think this is supposed to be pretty easy but im just being dumb.
when comparing HCl and DCl IR spectrums, why is the wavenumber gap between the R(0) transition and the P(1) transition greater for HCl?
I know it obiously has to do with D being heavier than H, but i cant seem to figure out a good rationalization for this to decrease the distance between R(0) and P(1) transitions. Math or intuition would be helpful
