Be it Kaplan or any other prep course?

Do you guys feel it's actually necessary, or do you think if you can discipline yourself and use the proper sources*, you can study on your own?

Thanx everyone.

*feel free to provide your own definition of "proper sources"

I took a class in Houston, WYNTK (What You Need To Know) for 3 weeks-- it helped me stay focused and gave me a schedule. But I do know people who studied on their own and did fine.

Books I thought were essential: FA, Path BRS (or some other Path book), Phys BRS, CMMRS, HY Gross, HY Neuro, HY Histo.

So you're saying that if you would've been able to stay focused on your own, you wouldn't have attended the course?

also, what is CMMRS?

Yes. Everything you need to do well is in those review books and questions banks (I did kaplan qbank). You can study on your own and do well.

However, that is a huge "if." Being able to focus on your own for like 8-10 hours a day and study efficiently that whole time is a big feat. I know there's some people out there who can do it without any external motivation, but I sure needed it.

i took an intense 1-month Kaplan review course to help me prepare for Step I.

I enjoyed the review books thoroughly, and loved the questions in the Q Book and Q Bank. However, I could have done without some of the lectures/lecturers...

Regardless, the program gave me great structure, which I felt that I would have lacked if I had attempted to study completely on my own (i.e. with FA or other review books).

As always, I recommend that you do what's best for you. I had several close friends in my class who either did not use Kaplan at all (even though my school paid for everyone within the class to have free access to Kaplan's books/lectures/questions), or just used the books, without attending any of the lectures. And these friends passed Step I as well.

My sis used the Kaplan Video lectures and hated it (doesn't really fit how she studies), but I might be going to the Falcon Review next summer...am still considering the Kaplan retreat/classes, etc

Hellow is this course worth it as it says? Did your classmates that took the course did ok? THanx
