Hey guys! I'm currently enrolled in Purdue's Animal Nutrition course. I'm looking for others who are enrolled! I haven't done too much for the class yet, because I've had a busy semester so far. (plus I'm a procrastinator 🙄) Has anyone taken the first test? If so, how was it? Reading the study guide, I'm like SUPER apprehensive and overwhelmed. That is a TON of info! And have you guys been using the written lecture material or the recorded lectures to study?

Hey there! I'm not enrolled anymore but I finished it a couple of months ago. I did really well in the course and found that if I used his recorded lectures (while looking at the written ones, they are essentially the notes from his recorded lectures) and tutorials to fill in the study guide, and studied the study guide then the tests were very easy. Good luck and don't stress, all of the information is on blackboard. I think I needed my textbook as a reference once.

Is that the one that's also worth CE? I feel like I was required to do that class as part of one of my vet school nutrition classes. Or maybe it was extra credit or something.

CE? I have no clue haha

Edit: Wait I totally got it. Continuing ed. right? I'm not sure whether or not it is. I'm pretty sure most of my classmates are pre-vet though.

That sounds more in-depth than what we had to do, which took no more than ... I don't remember. A few evenings, maybe? It was a one-off extra credit thing as part of our vet school nutrition classes.

Do yourself a favor and pay attention. You'll have to know it in vet school for <some> test. 🙂

Hahahahahahaha. I'm an idiot. I read the subject as Purina not Purdue. Totally different things.

I've heard good things about Purdue's course, though.

Anyway. Backing out of the thread now. Soz!

Were the exams via Blackboard as well? I read somewhere that in 2006 they were mailing in exams. Just curious if this is still the case.

The professor emails my exam proctor the exams, who then gives them to me to write in her office, and then when I am finished she scans them and emails them back to the animal nutrition professor. I am really enjoying this class! Lots to learn, but it will be helpful as a vet!

I'm in this class now, though not online. It's just a lot of memorization and things to get straight. The ration balancing is also a little difficult at first, but with some practice it becomes easier. He's a great professor and very energetic about nutrition.

Speaking of this, I'm going to have to take an online animal nutrition course at some point.... gah

Can anyone speak to the level of detail on the exams. I'm working on the study guide for the first exam, but do you need to know chemical structures?

I'm in it right now. I signed up in June when I wanted to make sure I had all of my bases covered. In reality, I didn't start it until about 2 months ago and I am taking my time. I wanted to work on it 2-3 months and be done by Spring Break, but it is a bit more in-depth that I had heard from others. I just took my 1st test and am going to compete Lesson 6 today or tomorrow. My test was mailed to my boss and I took it with the Secretary in the room. It was okay - I can't quite remember but it was 40 or 50 multiple choice question - luckily. I was worried I was going to have to redraw some of the diagrams. Definitely go over the study questions.
