Anyone w/ MCAT 30 and above and GPA 3.5 and over STILL waiting for an INTERVIEW?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
When were you complete? How many/which schools did you apply to?

if you don't have a DO letter, a lot of schools will not consider your file complete.

Well, I didn't have a letter from a DO. However, the schools that I applied to (UNECOM, UMDNJ SOM, PCOM) do not require but only suggest a letter from a DO!

Have you tried setting up an appointment with maybe one of the admissions counselors from the schools that you applied to? I know that some allopathic schools have a very open door policy - I talked to one of the schools I applied to and got an honest opinion of my application during this year's cycle from the director of admissions - they might be able to tell you if there is something missing in your app. How about your ECs - what did you do in the past and what are you doing this glide year?

I am not sure what the problem could be - you seem to have an excellent profile. I wish you the best!!

Yeah I don't see that being a major problem....unless they wanted to know specifically what kind of medically related experience you have if you don't have any previously but given your background, I don't see that being the case....

Well I know PCOM takes forever, and they are also very competitive. Plenty of 3.5/30+ applying there. Not sure about the other two. I'd imagine you'll get some interview invites at some point though.

Well, you have awesome ECs and it sounds like you have good LORs, although no DO LOR. If it is not your personal statement, I would just say it is a combination of applying late, only applying to 4 schools (1 of which is PCOM which is notorious for taking forever and gets tons of applications) andno DO LOR. You may appear to be an allo-reject w/o the DO letter (not saying that you are) and not sincerely interesting in osteopathic medicine.

Have you called the schools to check on the status of your application? I don't know why you wouldn't be getting any interviews yet. Have you sent any letters of interest?

Yep, things changed when I added the DO letter (4 interviews) - and to think, I almost didn't include it because it wasn't mandatory for some schools. Turns out, the DO letter was the strongest of the bunch.

Also, you're a little later in the cycle (near crunch time for the adcoms but not really late) so I'd give it a little more time and try to supplement with that DO letter - and pay the postage for the recommender to send it overnight mail!

I think early October is definitely not late in the cycle.

It's all relative.

Looks like TFunk thinks it's a bit later in the cycle, too.

It's somewhat later, IMO - hence my previous italics and explanation. From someone with app experience, I'd say its a tad later in the cycle, again.

What is going on? Am I missing something here???

I am not sure... I applied to Western, MSU, CCOM, and PCOM and heard back. I would call and make sure your app is complete - then starting writing letters of interest saying you can't wait to interview and how you are a perfect fit for their school based on your interests, experiences etc. I did not have a letter from a DO, but I did have one from an MD that may have mentioned that I have spent time shadowing a DO since he knew I was applying to DO schools.... but I am just speculating. I know someone with a low 20 MCAT and a 3.0 gpa that interviewed (but was not accepted to PCOM) - but this was last app cycle. So to me it is weird that you have not been invited to interview yet. Good luck to you!

I would call and make sure your app is complete -

That's a good point and it looks like we missed the most obvious. Do what Pheobe suggests here, stat. Also, if you post-poned (or canceled) your MCAT or a grade report, your app could be in limbo because the school(s) were/are waiting for the update. Call for status - that'd be covering your bases.

All these schools keep telling me that the files are complete!

In that case, consider following up individually with a phone call or letter of interest. If you can easily get a letter from a DO, that'd be a good reason for them to search out your file (for the letter addition). It's likely that it is just a matter of time - and the waiting is the worst part of this entire process!

i did call/email them. Most of these schools didn't get back to me and it's been like three weeks

Start sending letters of interest to a couple of your top schools - or get that DO letter going so they have a reason to open your file again. Otherwise, it's just a matter of waiting until they get to your file in the stack. Don't worry, it'll likely happen. Perhaps consider adding a few other schools that maybe aren't so back-logged because they are largely still unproven or less well-known. You need at least one interview/acceptance to take that pressure off!

What is going on? Am I missing something here???

I was complete Late September/Early October and I just got an interview from PCOM about a week ago and still nothing from New Jersey....I did receive an interview from UNECOM within 5 days of completing secondary...but I am a New England resident with a LOR from an alumni

I would call UNECOM because they are very good about the details of your status.

I spoke to Ms. Lane from UNECOM today, all she was able to tell me that the final decision on my candidacy was not yet made! and I've been complete there since early october! And anyone knows what grades they are looking for?

something is fishy. your ECs are good. Your numbers are good.

Have you actually SEEN your LORs? My bet would be something in your LORs wasn't good.

And, BTW, when I applied to UNECOM, MSU and PCOM I didn't have a DO letter. I got interviews from all three. Lack of a DO letter isn't your problem. And I was also OOS for all those schools.

i've seen few of those letters, which were very good! however, i haven't seen them all! So, you may be right about the letters!

did you apply to any MD schools?? Your stats aren't too bad for it.

Have you ever had any problems that are on your permenant record? Or been arrested or anything like that. I'm not trying to be rude, but something that you did as an 18 year old kid like setting off fireworks on private property (happened to a friend of mine that didn't know he was on private property) could be biting you in the behind now, it really hurt him for law school.

I don't mean to be insulting, I hope you don't take my question the wrong way.

🙂

Did you talk to PCOM?

I thought it was weird I hadn't heard anything from them yet, so I called and they said they never received my secondary application (even though they had cashed my check...), but that I'm complete at their Georgia campus (I never applied to their Georgia campus!!)

Turns out they had misfiled my application. I too was complete in early October, but didn't find out I was mis-filed until November sometime before Thanksgiving. The woman I spoke with said that she would mark on my file that I actually was complete in October so that I wouldn't be held back, but I'm not convinced that actually happened because I too haven't heard from them yet even though many people complete around the same time as me have gotten invites at this point.

Got invites at AZCOM, NYCOM, and CCOM, but what I really want is one from PCOM...

I know they told you you're complete, but since the Georgia campus applications get taken care of in Philly, it might be worth double-checking to make sure they didn't space out

you may try to get another lor and update your file. This would give you a good reason to phone and ask more questions.

I was complete at PCOM in mid-October with no DO letter and just got an invite. My stats are comparable to yours as well. No word from UMDNJ. Those are my only DO schools.

I would give a ring at PCOM. They are super friendly there and maybe provide some guidance. If you have access to an academic advisor, that might also be a good next step. He/she could help pinpoint any problems there may be with your application (LORs, essays, red flags, etc)

OMG! 😱

The same thing happened to me!

Except they had misfiled my LORs. They said they'd only gotten one copy (for the GA campus), but my school SWORE they sent all my packets out. Turns out I'd been complete at both campuses at the same time (which makes sense since it was all...you know...sent at the same time), so now I'm complete at PCOM philly.
