Anyone waiting for Hopkins?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
did you interview there? when?

how did they notify you of an interview? I am still waiting to hear from them.

i believe interview invites are by email.
last year, the first set of calls came out about a week before thanksgiving, if i'm remembering right.
might not be the same this year, though, so relax.
and good luck!

But you are not rejected yet right? Did you know where you stand on the wait list...and did hopkins notify you via a thin small envelope or through email??

I wasn't rejected and I don't know where I am on the waitlist. I received a thin envelope sometime in early October.

Hopkins doesn't reject interviewees until May or later. Everyone who interviews either gets accepted, or put into the 3 levels of waitlist. The lowest part of the waitlist is essentially a rejection, whereas the middle and top parts have a chance.

I called JHU's admission office like 5 times in the past 2 weeks, during the call-in hours MTW 2-4pm Eastern time. However, whenever I press "0" to talk to someone, it's always a busy signal....I give up!!

I talked to somebody at Hopkins earlier this week (11/04 or something) and they said they are running a good 5-6 wks behind, so hold on for a bumpy ride fellow august mcaters--it could be a while before the interviews start coming. Good luck!

I've interviewed there since forever and i haven't received any reply yet. I tried to call but failed.

I guess i will just sit and wait ...

I know it's tough, but sit tight. Hopkins won't forget about you. The admissions committee is extraordinarily thorough, and they are making decisions very, very carefully. There is no need to call (really!), as it will only raise your blood pressure and anxiety level, and you are unlikely to hear any useful information.

If you are waitlisted, I'd recommend sending a letter in January or February (after you have fall grades) to update your file. The committee will stratify the list into thirds, and such correspondence may influence your position. In April, you'll find out what tier you're in; if you're in the top third, you have a reasonable chance of being admitted.

Patience is key. I was in your shoes four years ago, and I was flipping out when I didn't hear back as quickly as I wanted. Rest assured that you will be notified of a decision as soon as possible.

Good luck,

doepug (MS IV, Johns Hopkins)

Some of us are still waiting to hear about interviews (and I was complete in August). Is this normal?

hi bosco
at least for me.....i was at NIH giving a talk a few weeks ago...i had my hopkins app complete since late august so i called them up to see if i could drive to Baltimore to coordinate the interview when i was in town. they told me that i was "not invited for an interview" 1st round (or something like that) and that i wouldn't hear back until januarry or so. I hope your case is different from mine and that they are just swamped but it seems that if we are rejected (as is my case), no notifications have been sent yet.

So,

PS i was told that i was rejected because my letters of evaluation did not meet their requriements ( i did not use my college premed committee) and while I had science letters, they were not senior faculty. So maybe you might be in a better case than me in the sense that they are still going over your app rather precluding it because of some idiot applicant not following directions 🙂

PPS for those of you who didn't use your premed committee, no worries. i've been accepted to several schools and no one has brought it up at any of my interviews.

Hopkins interviews applicants through March. It's entirely possible that you could get invited for an interview anytime between now and then. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to influence things at this point. Keep your hopes up -- you're still in the game.

Good luck,
doepug

apparently (ie. according to my voicemail), a friend of mine just got accepted.
just fyi...
don't want to stir up any panic attacks.
he's like, the absolute perfect applicant, though, so hang in there...

I was complete in early August, but I wasn't asked to interview until mid-Jan (by e-mail). I was accepted in March, so when you interview has little to do with whether you get accepted or when you are notified.

I did not have the best impression of JHU's admissions office, but don't let that influence you--I am an MSI here and I absolutely love it. As doepug said, Hang in there--the game is far from over and Hopkins is worth the initial hassle (once you get past admissions, everything changes).

Good luck! 🙂

VienneseWaltz, that's certainly encouraging to hear given my situation with being complete since mid august (Thank God, I just might still have a chance)..
