Hi guys!

I just got a letter stating that I've been waitlisted on the "medium" wait list at TOURO College in New York. Is anyone else in the same position? If I do get accepted, I'll have to move from Vancouver Canada to New York. There's a lot of work to be done for the move so I'm really stressing out. I need to find out the chances of me getting in.

AHh... I'm freaking out!!!

Wow, good luck!

I am waitlisted but do not know which teir because I interviewed on the 2nd day. I'm interested to see how full the class is after the second deposit is due. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Check out the TOUROCOM-NY Acceptances thread.

Last count i believe there were like 100 or more on the waitlist (including myself) and like 110 out of 135 deposits sent in.

So the class is pretty full. I also know that they shortened the interview date range. In my opinion, I don't think this waitlist will move at all ... and if it does, no more than 5 or 8 people.

Good luck though!!!

WOW!!!! They really moved fast!😱

I'm waitlisted, but I don't know what level on the list. Interviewed 3/15.

how could anyone go about deducing how much waitlist movement there will be for a brand new school??

1 - chill ... i said it was my opinion

2 - b/c the school started later in the game ... some people have already decided on schools ... i think it is safe to say that the people who have sent deposits in this late in the game are STRONGLY considering TOUROCOM. it would be different if the school was on the same "application cycle". people normally throw down deposits at a couple of schools b/c they can't decide and want the time to figure out where they want to go. this process would happen less at a school that is "behind" others. AGAIN ... my opinion.

3 - i hope the waitlist moves! ... i'm freakin' on it!

4 - no sense in arguing ... we won't find out until July/August anyways.

For those who are uncertain about their wait-list status, give them a call, they will tell you. Also Obed told me they will start looking at the waitlist at the end of May-June, so hopefully we will hear from them shortly.

I really hope I get into TOURO-COM this year. The good thing however is that if waitlisted applicants aren't accepted this year, they'll be candidates for early acceptance next year. I wonder if this is pretty much a guarantee seat for next year.

Did the admissions committee decided if they are definite about accepting waitlisted candidates for next year's class? I thought that it was just a consideration and they were not sure of that yet....

I talked to Mr. Figueroa yesterday and he said they would be candidates for next year. We wouldn't have to resubmit our application or go through the interview again. I wonder if that just means we'll be accepted right away?

TOUROCOM-NY told me that we would submit our primary application ... but would not have to submit a secondary and would not have to go to the interview. I think you just submit an updated primary next year and they consider you for early acceptance.

I'm GUESSING that if you are not accepted early ... then maybe you can submit a secondary and maybe go on the interview again??? Not sure but if I hear I'll post something. Good luck yall!

Hi jenP,

thanks so much for the info, that's great news. Hopefully though, we all get accepted in this year's class!

I am so confused. I interviewed Feb 14th and was put on the waitlist, but they didn't say high, med, or low. I emailed Obed 2 days ago asking which list I was on and he said "the waitlist has not been pulled as of yet. you will be notified shortly." Why would they have told some people high, med , or low but not others? Has anyone been told they are on the high waitlist?

I interviewed at the end of March and got an email saying I was on the Wait List-High. The only response I've gotten about when the Wait List will move is "June or before."

That's pretty weird that they didn't tell you which list you were on. When I talked to Mr. Figueroa, he said that he'll let me know by the end of June where I stand. But he did warn me that some students will probably drop out in July too so I might be waiting for awhile to figure out my status. eeks

I had the same question and the reply I got from Obed was:

If you were in the first few interviews did not have the ranking. This may work in your favor. These will be pulled without a previous ranking. My point is you dont have a category yet so it has be reviewed first and then decided how to proceed. See what I mean. If you were a low then you would have to wait.

So I'm guessing, if you were interviewed before mid-March, then we are not on a waitlist rank, and therefore those waitlisters would be looked at first, then waitlist highs, then mediums and finally lows. So in a way, waitlisters from the beginning of the interview period, if we are strong enough candidates should be a bit relieved.

Wow, lala, that sounds like great news...and it makes sense that they would first review those who interviewed first. Good luck!

I spoke to Obed concerning my decline of offer for admission there and he told me 120 students have forked over 2k for deposits...so i opened up at least one more spot for you all...hope its not true so all of you get in!! Best of luck to you all and trust me Touro-NY will be an exceptional institution in the future!

Woohoo!! People dropping out means more seats for us unfortunate wait-listers... Does anyone feel like the medical school process is like the waiting game?

hey....we're here for each other right? I just hope it DOES work in our favor...*fingers crossed*

I hope ALL us waitlisters get in....

that would require all the currently accepted people to leave, or touro having to further increase its class size. I don't mind the latter 🙂

FYI- I was in the office Friday afternoon, Class is full! at least all 125 spots are accounted for.. that means that there are no more than 13 spots left (they can increase enrollment by upto 10%). Based on what I was hearing some of those 13 extra seats have been also taken....

thats just freakin' GREAT!!:meanie:

grrrrrrrrr
not so happy to hear that

did they mention anything about the waitlist or if there will be much movement on the waiting list?

Awww.. that's really NOT good news at all. At least not for me:scared:. Oh well, I guess there's always next year. I'm gonna have to bug Mr. Figueroa and make sure I find out if a seat next year is guaranteed if we were waitlisted this year...

Hey JenP,

Could you let us know when u hear from Obed Figueroa? I've been having a hard time of getting a hold of them...any info will be greatly appreciated! good luck!

Good lord, another year of this sort of torture...I don't think I could handle it 🙁

If Touro-NY works like Touro-CA then high waitlisters are offered an early admission seat for the following year. I vaguely remember Cbnedic was offered that option during this cycle. You could try searching her post history 🙂

Best of luck guys!

Wow... that just made my day! I hope Touro-NY works the same way. But when I asked Mr. Figueroa regarding the number of people in each list (waitlist-high, medium, and low), he told me there were 80 people in each. So, if there are 240 people waitlisted, how can all of them be offered seats when the school only has 125 seats? Or maybe he heard me wrong and meant that there were 80 people ALTOGETHER in the waiting lists...

Oh I sure will! Let me tell you though, Mr. Figueroa is the hardest person to get a hold of. I'll usually call at least 3 times and even leave messages. And maybe if I'm lucky, he'll pick up the 4th time I'll call. But even then, when I remind him that I left a message, he seems to not know that I even called. Haha, even getting a hold of Mr. Figueroa seems like a test.

Oh I know . I just hope that this waitlist position guarantees me a seat next year though so at least I can rest assured that I'll be attending September 2008.

There is no way that waitlisted people will be guaranteed a spot for next year. That would more than fill their class for next year and they would not be able to accept any more applications for the next cycle and I don't see that happening. What I was told is that a few of the highest waitlisted people would be invited to attend orientation in case anyone dropped out at the last minute and that those people, if not accepted this year, would be offered acceptance for next year. That being said, as soon as the next deposits are due, I'm sure the waitlist will move at least a little. Some people have paid multiple deposits and may be waitlisted at other schools right now that they prefer over Touro. That being said, I think there is still some hope for at least some of us waitlistees.

Here's that post about Touro-CA. Not sure if Touro-NY follows the same procedure...

That's what I thought too. I wonder what the chances are that we'll be accepted next year (as candidates of Early Accept) if we were waitlisted this year. It'd be nice to know this so we could plan out applications to other schools as well.

Obed told me there are 20-25 people on the "high waitlist".
If I had to guess, I would say 10 people will get off the waitlist
for sure. But I wouldn't be surprised if up to 25 make it off.
That said, some of those who make it off the waitlist may
not choose to accept the invitation b/c they got in somewhere
else or got off another waitlist at a school that's better for them.
Then offers would be made to those below them on the list. So
I think there's hope for people on the "middle waitlist" as well.
The "low waitlist"... well, who knows? It all depends on factors
that have yet to play themselves out, but will soon enough.

While I'm here, I'm looking for the tall Indian guy who looks like
Tony Robbins who interviewed on 4/11. Anybody know who I'm
talking about and have his contact info? I think his name was
Jerry.

What about those of us who were never designated in our letters as high, middle, or low because we interviewed before they started doing that? Someone on here posted that they would all be ranked above those who were 'high' but do you know anything about that?

I was told of my waitlisted status via email however, i was never given a rank. it wasn't about a month ago i called back to check which rank i was (since some people on SDN said they were ranked high, or middle) and Dr. Cammarata informed me of rank. just call him and ask.

this is what i dont like about this school already. Conflicting responses. I was one of those people who didnt have a rank, and I was told that we weren't ranked and our applications would be looked at first. For example, lets say they'd look at my application first because I was never ranked. However as they look at it again they could either think im exceptional and accept me, think that they need to look at other applications before they form some kinda conclusion with mine and rank it, or perhaps god forbid straight up reject me. That's my understanding of it from what Obed said. But I guess if someone else gets a clearer answer, please do share.

Doctor Phil, why are you so interested in this tall Indian Tony RObbins?I saw that you posted this on the acceptance thread as well.

why are you so interested in this tall Indian Tony RObbins?.

Nice guy. Curious to know how he fared. Why... Are you interested in him too?😉

As for waitlists, some colleges tell you the rank, some don't, and some say the list is unranked. But let's face it, if there's no ranking, what do they do, pull names out of a hat?

So I would say that of course the list is ranked somewhat, even for folks who interviewed early and were not officially ranked at the time. BUT... I can't imagine any school has a strict ranking system, because they like to balance the class as they go. So if a woman drops out, it's probably more likely that they'll replace her with another woman, because most schools like to have pretty close to 50/50 M/F. That's just one example, but you get the idea.

As for not liking mixed messages, that's understandable, but this is a new school, and there will probably be some on-going policy development. I know it's frustrating being on the waitlist, but the deal with waitlists is that no matter where you are on it or how many people are on it, there's really no way to know how many spots will open up or if you'll get one of those spots. If it were a school that had been around for a while, there would be some history to look up, but even then you wouldn't know for sure. In this case, there's not even any history. It's an enigma wrapped inside a puzzle wrapped inside of a conundrum!

Take solace in the fact that people get off waitlists every year, and this year, it could be you. In fact, I'm going to go on the record right now that I believe you, Amathew, will get off the waitlist this year. So early congratulations to you!

I definitely will agree with the conflicting responses. I got told there were 80 people on each list (high, medium, and low). Also, he said that was the only categories people could be in. So, according to that response, even those who interviewed early have to have some sort of ranking within these categories. Ughh.. I think I might just call and confirm that Mr. Figueroa did mean 80 people on each rank and not the entire waitlist. I'm so paranoid right now but it would be nice if we could be more sure of this kind of stuff.

Aww.. Dr. Phil, make me believe that I have a chance to get off the waitlist also!

there was a guy on sdn that was on 5 wait lists last summer and still didn't get into a single school. i know a lot of it has to do with where you are on the wait list and not necessarily how many you're on, but this waiting game SUCKS!

Amatthew,

I have been reading all your posts for a while.......I am rooting for you also....let's know the minute you get the news!!!!:luck: :luck: 👍
Mr Figueroa, if you are reading this.....take amatthew off the watlist! We want amatthew in our class!!!!!!!!!!🙂

Best wishes for everybody on waitlists......

mama3

I feel like 80 people in each category is waaaay to many people to be waitlisted. Does anyone have any idea as to how many people are waitlisted at other schools??
