Anyone want to read my Personal Statement

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sure. PM it to me. Is this for next year? This year?

I'm doing an ABSN program so I need some help. I'm not done though with it.

I want to get it in today though and I'm not done with it.

PM me.

I will not edit it or rewrite it for you, but I will tell you if it is on the right track.

PM me. I don't know if i am good but my essay has been called interesting and well written almost all my interviews.

Watch this be a cry for help or some unsettling shyte that makes you wonder if you should call someone haha.

Sure! Lay it on me. I've worked as a copy editor, a content editor, and an editor-in-chief on two different publications. I may be able to help!

I've said this before, but be careful about who your allow to read your PS. There are many pre-meds on this list, and I'd be willing to bet that at least a handful of them are going to be writing their own personal statements soon and applying next year...you never know who may be looking for inspiration, nicely worded phrases, etc.

You don't want to apply only to find out that your PS has already been submitted by someone else.

Unless they are willing to commit identity theft as well, I don't think this is likely.

OP, I'd just make sure you strike out key phrases that could identify you before you send it to anyone. You can send it to me if you want another pair of eyes.

I wasn't referring to anyone stealing the applicant's identity.

It is very common for applicants to use patient and family stories in their personal statements, and there is absolutely nothing to stop other applicants from borrowing those stories for their own essays. I'm not saying anyone in this group would do that...I'm just saying that, on an anonymous online forum, how would you know?

If school X reads the same unique and poignant story on two separate personal statements, that might just raise some eyebrows...especially if the wording is identical.

If you need more readers I'll be happy to..& will give some feedbackck

Right, but most of these stories are applicant specific. You can write a great essay about how your uncle died of ALS - but how can another person steal that story (unless his uncle also died of ALS)? Or you can write about a patient interaction that happened when you volunteered at Mass Gen, but how many applicants volunteer there?

The only way is to take the idea and generalize it, and I would say most essays are a variation of 5 basic templates anyhow.

I agree with the warnings on this thread. Be careful...you'd be shocked and dismayed how low some pre-meds will go. There is a student on full scholarship at a top-tier school that literally copied and pasted my personal statement last year. My bad. I shared it with him pre-application cycle because he wanted to know "why i was so passionate about medicine." Don't be naive. I would like to hope that the vast majority of pre-meds out there would never stoop so low...but it happened to me, so the point is, it happens.

That said, I think that everyone here that offered to read your PS genuinely wants to help. It's just difficult to pick out the wolves in sheep's clothing, ya know?

WOW!! I don't think I'd ever be able to not get over being mad if something like that happened to me.. 😡

Sure i'll read it.. PM it to me, and I should have it looked at by early tomorro 🙂

i suppose it'd be safer and probably better for those of us who have already applied and are accepted to read it.

i'll take a look if you pm me it. good thing you're getting started early, because in a few months, there will have been so many of these requests posted on this board that few will even bother.
