USUHS > state school = a few top 10s
I think the reason why people's dream school tend to be top 10/top 20 is because the way schools are arranged geographically.
A lot of people like to go to big cities, which are filled with top 10/top 20 schools.
A couple of destination cities for people:
SF > UCSF
Manhattan > Columbia, Cornell, NYU, Mt.Sinai
San Diego> UCSD
LA > UCLA
Additionally, dream school changes in the cycle. When I was a college student I loved to go to HMS, when I got my gig working in UCSF I would love to attend UCSF, but for me my dream school is the best fit school that takes me.
My absolute dream school is Cornell, but i feel like in terms of admissions it may as well be a top 10
My dream school is UofL. I was born in Louisville, most of my family lives there, I have some friends up there, I lived in nearby WV for years, I love the good parts of the city, and more.
Mount Sinai, FTW!👍
You will love Sinai even more when you interview there! It is a wonderful community in an unbeatable location.
My dream school was Mayo...until I interviewed at Hopkins. It was love at first site😍
Realistically though, my dream school will be the best fit out of any schools that accept me.
Michigan State University College of Human Medicine is my dream school because the camaraderie among students is amazing, the classes are pass/fail, they want to educate doctors to serve the under-served populations in Michigan. Not that other schools don't match these criteria, me feeling very comfortable there is what it all comes down to.
sounds goodMy dream school is the one that accepts me. 🙂
My dream three are Vanderbilt, Pitt, and Case. They're all nicely clumped in the top 15-20 range. But in reality, I'd be happy wherever I was accepted 🙂
Actually, my dream school is Loma Linda... I'm a Christian, and I really like the school's mission. I think it fits me better than any of the others 🙂
My dream school is USUHS and they will be calling the lucky ones on Oct 16 with the good news. Needless to say I will be sitting by the phone hoping for that call.
I felt the same way originally after looking at the website, but upon visiting the school it was definitely a bit more underwhelming than I expected. It was a little stuffy -- maybe that's the Ivy League atmosphere more than anything -- and the actual med school facilities and students weren't particularly endearing.
Then gain, I am permanently jaded by my experience at U of Michigan. The respect and hospitality at the interview, the extreme happiness of their students, the flexibility and support they provide, and the ideal location of Ann Arbor (smallish city, liberal college town) make it my first choice as it stands now. It's just outside of the top 10, too! I also think I'm probably going to like Mayo a lot when I interview there, but why would I continue to profess my love for UCSF if they haven't shown any reciprocation? :-\
The Top 10 med schools may be famous names and carry a lot of prestige, but also keep in mind that they've graduated many leaders in medicine who have created the problems weighing down our current system. Many of them focus on research grants and competition to the detriment of teaching students to be compassionate and grounded doctors, and the type of people you'll be exposed to at those schools will likely persuade you to go after biomedical research or specialization rather than primary care. The student population themselves may be self selected to be obnoxiously competitive and out of touch, as well...I know I don't want to enter this part of my career in that environment. I want a med school that is academically rigorous but also helps me preserve my humanity and still have a life, and with other students that have those same goals.
What you mean?
University at buffalo med school 🙂🙂🙂🙂
WHEN it merges with Rice...tuition is going to up up and awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!![]()
