fub, is your Walgreens hiring?

just started my internship at Walgreen and I hate the system over there, especially the "drive-thru" window! CostCo is much better

Yep. Drive-thru sucks like nothing has sucked before. I think that fast food drive through gets more respect than ours.

As far as the system goes though, once you learn the computer system, it's light-years ahead of other pharmacies, especially with the inter-store networking. When I hear about my classmates at other chains having to manually do things that I can accomplish with a few keystrokes, I appreciate it even more!

pharm tech at walgreens in houston in the cypress area. i used to work at the one on kuykendahl/ella if anyone really cares. haha. i hate every minute of it! 15 min kips/drive thru/bitchy customers/etc....can't wait to get my pharm degree to do research!!!!!

I just started my summer internship with them..and they stuck me with IC+ training for 3 days straight for total of 14 hours, and I had to finish all 3 IC+ training CD. I think I'm going nuts! I felt confident and was ready to do something when I got done w/ 2nd CD, but when I started 3rd CD it got into so much detail and exceptions w/o getting me chance to practice the basic skills, so I forgot the information on previous CD's...I wish I had some chance to play w/ it before I started on CD#3, but I'm the new one and the PM set me up like this and I can't complain. Oh well. At least I vented here.

I just moved back home to Port Richey about a week ago. How difficult is it to get on with Walgreens with no prior pharmacy experience? I have worked retail for the last three years and am continuing to work on my pre reqs over at PHCC.

Reverent- It was pretty easy for me to get a job. My parents had a friend who worked there and she basically got my name into the system cause I wanted to be a pharmacists. So I would defitanely go apply cause they are always looking for people who want to work and have the passion for pharmacy! I had no experience when I walked in. They teach you everything and you just learn and learn. Actually, right now, we are hiring..one our sr. techs is leaving..so there is an open spot. They are really flexible with schedules cause I am currently taking a master's class at USF. I basically got the days I wanted off. So go check it out! 🙂

wag tech/intern/student???, chicago north.

I worked with walgreens for almost 4 years. I agree with the computer system, and it is extremely advanced compared to cvs, and eckerd, which i was previously employed for 4 years. Friends from cvs tell me the system still hasnt changed much. BUT I HATE THE FRIGGIN DRIVE THRU. You get no repect. people ask you to get a damn box of kleenex. They are just lazy to get off. One lady asked if i could get them a bottle of diet coke. Of course i told her no! But, that is what makes money, convenience. I wish they would do away with it, but the powers that be who some probably never worked in a pharmacy set the rules. If it was up to me, only handicapped, parents with sick screaming children, and the elderly could only be permitted to use the DT. But, who am I do filter out? Its a business. AND what about patient confidentiality? Forget it at my store. WE have intercoms where we talk to them and patients talk back where everyone in the lobby can hear. "yeah I would like to pick up for Joe so and so, its my xanax!" ugh. I just want to get some bricks and concrete and seal that sucker shut! LOL.

Me too! Few days ago this woman came by to drop off her Rx. She was on the phone while she was at drive thru; I asked for the patient's DOB and phone # (my store policy to record them on every rx). She just wanted to drop them by and drive thru...and she got angry cuz I asked her for them while she spoke on her cell phone...and she got really agitated! 👎

you are getting a pharmD to do research?... do you mean you are going to grad school? i am interested in research too but not sure about grad school, just out of curiosity, what field are you interested to work in?

Seems like the patient is willingly giving up patient confidentiality...that's their right.

hippa is crap, every one in the us is somehow crazy i dont see the point of whispering, specially if its birth control, benzo's or antibiotics. The only people I actually enfore patient privacy are the HIV pts.

Drive thru does suck. People are so lazy sometimes, I wonder how they make it through life. I had this one lady yell at me cause we wouldn't accept her check for her percocets. Not my fault, call the freaking bank! She just kept on yelling and yelling. I'm like um, the whole store can hear you and she just drove off in a fenzy. Don't you just love the clientals?! While DT sucks, there are some actual nice ppl that come in and just be nice. 🙂

The correct spelling is HIPAA not HIPPA.

I'll be attending the University of Houston pharmacy school in the fall. If all goes well after the first year and I have a gpa of at least a 3.0, I can apply for the pharmD/phd program where I can do research. In order to do research, you need to get a PhD. If I am granted the pharmD/phD program...i go to school for an additional 3 more years after pharm school and I'll be able to do research.

i ultimately want to develop new drug therapies and do research on HIV meds and MS and any others that come across my way. we'll see how it goes if i even survive the first year. haha

yeah, thats the sort of thing I am interested in... But it may be quicker if you just get a bachelors in 4 years and then go to grad school, whats the advantage of having a phD and a pharmD ?
(sorry for being off topic for the thread)

I never worked at Walgreens, but I do remember applying for a retail job there. It's been about seven months, and I still haven't heard from them. I spent my whole life and every waking hour thinking about wearing that little blue button vest, standing behind the counter. I hope one day I'll be able to earn $7.50/hr, instead of becoming a healthcare professional and making a difference in my community.

question: did you mean you rather become a healthcare professional and making a difference instead of earning $7.50 a hour??! personally, i rather do the healthcare prof instead. also, which walgreens did you apply to?? they always seem to be hiring at my store
