I just scored a 99th comp on the PCAT and it dawned on me that I could turn a profit on this by tutoring others. Anyone have any experience tutoring for Kaplan? I'm curious to know whether or not they make you teach a certain curriculum strictly or give you lots of room to personalize your teaching. Also how many hours/wage that you got to start.
Thanks!

I am also interested in becoming a Kaplan tutor. Here's Kaplan's website with information on requirements, application process, FAQs etc. It seems like Kaplan is picky about choosing instructors with all these auditions and interview processes though :scared:

Any information about this from past/current Kaplan PCAT tutor would be greatly appreciated 😍

I scored at the 99th percentile and I "auditioned" for Kaplan as well; I decided against the position because I make ample money tutoring privately and the program was very disorganized (at least, at the Chapel Hill office). The key thing is that they grade you on a 5-minute presentation that you give to the site coordinator and then they ask you questions about your teaching rubric.

The guy who ran the site at Chapel Hill was, without question, one of the most disorganized people that I have ever met. He stumbled over his words, refused to make eye contact, etc. I thought ... How the HECK did you get to this position (He was an instructor as well) with your horrible social skills? Furthermore, after refusing the position, I received e-mails from the company about logging in my hours. I was thinking ... Thank GOD I didn't pursue this option.

It may be beneficial for some people, but I was informed that PCAT tutors aren't in extremely high demand so I didn't want to hinder my private business (you can't tutor privately if you tutor for Kaplan) by tutoring for a disorganized company.

 yeah I decided to start my own tutoring business as well. Plastering fliers all over the place. How much do you charge an hour chemguy? I figured $20/hr would be a good rate.

$20/hour is my usual rate, although I charge $25 for Organic and Biochemistry. I'll have some students complain about rates when they contact me, but I simply tell them ... I'll see you next semester when you're retaking the class. (If you're kvetching about paying for a service from someone who has had a history of success, you're not going to get ANY love from me. 😀)
