Once you get PT certified, is there anything you can do to further your education? Is PT a masters program? And if it is, can you get your doctoral? After that, are there any types of specialties you can go into that requires more school? What are the options exactly? Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm really interested in PT school. Thanks

The vast majority of physiotherapy schools are D.P.T. (Doctor of Physical Therapy) programs, however, there are a few Master's programs (MSPT) left. The D.P.T. degree is the first professional, terminal degree for the profession. There are academic degrees that therapists pursue: Ph.D, D.Sc, etc. if they are more interested in research and teaching. Clinically, therapists have residency and fellowship programs for clinical specialties (orthopedic, neurology, sport, cardiovascular & pulmonary, clinical electrophysiology, geriatric, and women's health) and sub-disciplines (manual therapy, wound care, etc.) if they wish to pursue them. Hope that helped.

I was thinking of going into sports physical therapy. Just curiosity, how long is each residency and fellowship? And is the pay different?

I think it would benefit you to read the forum a little bit before posting questions that have been previously asked. Take some time to click through previous posts. There is a lot of important information for someone who takes a proactive approach by looking at other peoples questions.

~1.5 years for each credential. I would expect at least a slight increase in pay based on specialization/clinical advancement. It may depend on what kind of employment contract you negotiate and how you market yourself.
