Hey just curious about what you guys think about the creation of the AOS in response to the board certifications brought about by the AOA.

I am very uneasy about it mainly because it makes our profession seem very divided in a time when we need everyone together as one.

I agree with you on the division of the profession comment.

However, if it's true that the AOA ignored the wishes of the OD's that it represents when it voted for the creation of a board certification panel (or whatever you call it), the AOS has some valid points.

Unfortunately, it appears a dangerous game of chicken is being played between the two organizations. At least in my state, Virginia, the VOA leadership did a good job of representing the wishes of the membership by accurately allocating their votes according to the sentiment of the doctors. Several states' offficers voted all their votes in favor of Board Certification despite a divided opinion among their constituents.

It's crazy.

Anyone think AOS is here to stay? Will it be around in 10 years?

It's good though, that a group of concerned optometrists can make an impact like they have done.
