I just got 2 High passes instead of Honors i missed them by like 2-3 points each class and its very very frustrating. how big of a factor is AOA in getting into a ENT residency?

It's a bonus and certainly helps when present, but the lack of it is not a deal-breaker. Not even close in my opinion.

Just because you got two high passes does not mean you will not get AOA. Now it may prevent you from being inducted in your junior year, but there is still light at the end of the tunnel!

Here's a story for you.

I didn't get AOA until Nov of my 4th year. I had already submitted my applications. When I sat down at a TOP program to interview with the chair, he said, "Welcome; glad to meet you." Reviewing my application quickly: "Did you make AOA?" True story. First words out of his mouth.

ok, after you said no, howd the rest of it go?

I had a similar experience as Neutropeniaboy - mine was regarding board scores.

Was at a top program, too, and was asked by the Chair - "So, you don't have at least a 250 on your Step I, so why should we accept you?" Can't remember what I said, but was put off a little.

If it isn't AOA, it'll be board scores, research, publications, personality or a variety of other factors that they'll focus on.

Just do the best you can, be humble in the interviews, remember that everyone you come into contact has a say in the rankings, try to relax - and you should do fine.
