Hey got question for my friend...she has AP out of intro to zoology which include the lab. In our school (with a score of 5) that count toward both lab and lecture. So does that count as one semester of biology lab for medical school entrance.
Depends on the medical school. Some require that you take all your prereq's at a college. Some will accept AP credit for prereq's. It seems like most take a middle road: they will accept AP credit under the condition that you supplement it with an upper level course+lab.
From my experience most schools don't care too much about prereqs if they can be confident you have the basic knowledge and skills. I've only taken 1 semester of physics and gen chem and only 1 bio lab, but since I'm an engineer, took 2 semesters of biochem, and have worked in genetics and chemistry labs no school has made a big deal out of it. Some are strict, but I think most schools are pretty flexible.
My guess is if she's done some other experience it won't be a big deal
Like I said, it depends on the school. Every medical school has its own requirements, and some are more strict about their requirements than others. If your friend has time though, I would definitely recommend taking the pre-reqs. They have them because they expect you to have a certain amount of background knowledge when you enter medical school. You can usually find this information on the school's website, and if not you can always call and ask.
That's not accepting AP credit... that's the same as your first choice (requiring prereqs in college). Any school will accept upper division credits with lab... you only need a year of biology with labs, not a year of general biology with labs. Most end up taking general biology, because that's just the first in the sequence you need to take, but some could potentially place out of it, and take upper division coursework to make up for that fact.
Like others have said, it depends on the school. Biology seems to be a rough one, as many schools are willing to accept AP credits for physics and other requirements (such as English), but won't accept it for chemistry or biology.
